You have to login to your hosting account and setup an FTP username and password first. It's not the same as your hosting user/pass (usually).

Thanks Lisa for replying. But I don't know my hosting account. Do I have to get one or what? I don't know what it is.

If you purchased a domain and have a name then your host account should be yoururl.com with out the www. pass word should be the same as your cpanel login unless, you created a ftp login. That should be all you need to login.

On another note, I would suggest that you setup a ftp login for your site and lock that ftp to your public_html this ensures a little better security for your site.

Default Logging into host server

Have you purchased both a domain name and hosting or have you just bought a domain name?

With many hosting plans when you purchase hosting you get a free domain name with the package, though if you have only purchased a domain name you will still have to buy web hosting space.

If you have bought web hosting space you will have to log into your web hosting account and look for the ftp address for your web host and your username and password for your particular hosting account.

Once you have got your ftp address of your web host (ftp: ‘your web host or free domain name’.com your web hosting username which is usually your account name and your password, you simply plug these three pieces of information into your ftp client (program) and connect to your web host server.

On rare occasions you might have to adjust a setting or two on your ftp program but usually it connects first time.

I don’t think I can offer much more than that as each domain hosting does things a little different to the next, some use their business name as the ftp url (hostgator.com) while others use your chosen free domain name, in any case you will have to find your username and password of your hosting account, that’s assuming that you have one!

Let me know how you go.
John

Why u want to use FTP?... for the internel lan or in want no need FTP bcz can copy paste... So FTP need only in publishing web component online.. also to downlaod for the webmasters not for the web users.. SO if u have hosting account then only need to use it...

First of all download Filezilla from the below mentioned URL:

http://filezilla-project.org/download.php?type=client

Once you download and install it, kindly follow the below steps:

1. In Host, enter either FTP IP [ftp://IP of domain] or host name [ftp://ftp.domainname]
2. In username, enter FTP username
3. In Password, enter the password of above FTP username.
4. Do not enter anything in the Port
5. Then QuickConnect
6. Once it is connected to the FTP, you will see the list of files or folders present on the server at the right hand side. The list of files/folders at the left hand side is from the local computer.
7. Navigate to the required files/folders at both side. and then download/upload by right clicking on the file/folders object.

I have another question i am used to upload and download sites, i am mostly using cuteftp and sometimes wsftp on one of my site i notice its uploading is very slow sometimes uploading stops asking for hosting account password again and again, and even some kbs take almost 10 to 15 minutes to upload, although on all other site i have no problem in uploading just one site. can you tell me what can be the reason is this the hosting company issue or my internet connection issue?

It can be your hosting company issues. If they are not offering any high speed...

by the way who is the hosting provider and what's your plan..

Jimi the hosting provider should have sent you an email with your username and password. Look for it. Or go back and ask them to re-send the original email or ask for a new password...The username should stay the same.

Might want to try the following:
