Default Pls help me figure this out

I want to use phpGraphy for my web gallery but just can't seem to get a hang of it . The instructions for setting it up goes thus:

"Get the latest phpgraphy tarball and upload it to your webserver. Once it's online,
simply open your webbrowser to the location where you've install phpGraphy.
It should detect the new installation by itself, in case it doesn't, specifically
request "install.php".

I tried uploading the latest phpgraphy with my Cpanel's file manager under the public.html but it's picking them a file at a time and there're so many files in the archive.

Has anyone used this photo gallery script? And how can I get around this?

If you have a zip file for the script than just ftp that zip file in public_html folder and than log in in your cpanel go to your public_html folder click on the file name you uploaded and right you should have option to extract the file that and follow the instructions you got from the script.

Thanks GP,

Finally figured it out but there's something I don't understand..........in my cpanel there's an icon for ftp accounts. Is this account supposed to be the same with what I'm already using (I'm using FireFTP) or is it supposed to be different? Also noticed that the ftp clients they included doesn't have fireftp.........can I use 2 ftp software (they included filezilla)?

Those are ftp accounts are set by server admin and you use it to log on server with ftp program.

All this time I have been using cpanel my ftp log in has always been
ftp.domainname
user name for cpanel
password.

No matter what ftp program you use the principle is same.

yea, FTP accounts in cPanel just allows you to make new accounts

like for example Web address for ftp : ftp.(yourdomain).com

Username = (your cPanel login name)

password = (your cPanel password)

and port 21

but you should extract the files using WinRAR on your computer

then upload the folder to your server

then navigate to www.yoursite.com/phpgallerything/install.php

I did not know that phpgraphy was a WinRaR file was assuming that it was a zip file as a zip file can be extracted on the server I do not know about WinRaR as I have not had one you could ask your host if it can be done.

What does one need several accounts for? I just started using my cpanel and there're 5 user accounts there already. Don't even know what they're for. Downloaded filezilla since it was one of their recommended ftp programs but can't find where it is on my computer .

There are just too many things on the cpanel that I don't even know where to start.

All those icons are like your computer desktop are programs installed on server by server admin you can not change any of that.
you use what you want and do not worry about the rest.

If start messing around with what server admin has setup you will mesh up your account so do not do anything with all the folders and files that are there all you need for your website is public_html folder and you can do what ever you want in that folder and leave the rest as is.

think of public_html as the website name

so when u click the public_html folder, the stuff you will see will be

www.yousite.com/(this stuff)
public_html =====>folders like images, forum, blogs

www.yoursite.com/forum

Thanks.

Do my pictures and everyhing I need go in there too?

I'm using Hostgator's website builder and to upload pics it doesn't have any option for getting it from my pictures folder in public_html but from my computer. Do I have to create a link for the pics to the picture folder?.

yea

i've had bad experiences with the online site builders

it's more fun coding from scratch on notepad and in the end, it will be better

but yea

once you upload the images to public_html>images

you can call the images in your code

<img src="http://www.yoursite.com/images/imagename.jpg"/>
