Default Keep getting error in SBI!

I keep trying to upload template from Lisa's blog and I keep getting the following error:

"the style.css file must be referenced in the support-files folder, not at the root of your directory (or something like that)"

I've checked my files about 50 times, and the style.css file is in the support-files folder, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

I also previewed the page in SBI!, just to see what it looks like, and its all screwed up. My original SBI! navbar is still there, and my content is at the bottom of the page, after the nav bar. And my background color is missing.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks

Are you sure the path to the CSS file inside your actual page is pointing to the support files folder?

Also when you navigate in your browser to
http://www.yourdomain.com/support-files/style.css can you pull it up? I just tried it for your site and didn't see it unless you named it something else.

Also, when are you getting this error? Is it when you use the "Upload Your Own HTML" button?

I just did a view > source of your home page to see what you're talking about, and that is what I'm missing. When I open/create a new page in Kompozer, the path to the css file has your URL in it. So I was taking that entire HTML tag out, not replacing it with my URL.

I'll have to wait until I get home (I'm at work now, so I guess I should be working! ) to fix that and see if it works, but I'm almost sure that's why I'm getting the error.

Thanks, that error was driving me crazy!

OK great. Can't wait to see your new design. You're the first person (that I know of at least) who is using my template as a guide as they take their site out of the SBI! block by block builder. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Ok, I fixed the previous problem. I just was not referencing the file correctly. But I'm still having some issues with the template.

1. In "preview" mode for both Kompozer and SBI, all the links in my table of contents and image galleries are red.

2. In preview mode for SBI, my borders are missing around the left nav and sidebar sections. They are visible in Kompozer.

3. In preview mode for SBI, my footer is not aligned with the rest of the site. Its hanging off to the left just a little. It is aligned perfectly in Kompozer.

Will this stuff be fixed once I actually build the page, or should I be able to see exactly how my page will look when I preview it in SBI!?

I think you should go by what the preview mode is in SBI!. Based on some things you've posted previously about Komposer, I'm not sure it is very reliable with coding.

To be honest, I did all my previewing in Dreamweaver and didn't use SBI!'s preview tool. Thinking back, not sure why I didn't. But that would make me nervous if you are seeing different results.

Does Komposer allow you to preview your site in an actual browser instead of their software?

Yes, I viewed in a browser and the links are still red, and the borders are missing. However, the footer was aligned properly.

I currently have the borders set up so that they only appear on the left, right and bottom, but hidden on the top. I have a border around all 4 sides of my header. I set it up this way because if I put a border on the top of the navbar and sidebar, it looks like a double thick border under the pics I have in my header (hope that makes sense). My header has 2 pics on each side, and text in the middle.

I went back and added the border to the top of the navbar and sidebar, and now they are showing up in the browser. How weird!!

OK, I just viewed one of my pages in SBI!'s Preview mode and it looks fine, just like it does in Dreamweaver. So something must be funky if it's not showing up right in SBI!.

Did you change a lot of the attributes from the original template? (height and width of different sections). With CSS and using different browsers, one pixel can often throw things off.

Yes, I had to play around with my header a lot, and I think now it's set at 844px (original size is 850). But I didn't think it would make a difference. I also changed the sidebar to be the same width as the navbar.

Should I go back an put in all the original widths?

To be honest, that may be best because it can get crazy. The reason why it's so tricky is that there is padding set up in some of those containers. So if the left nav is set to 130 pixels but the style sheet has 10 pixels of padding then the left nav is really 150 (10 + 10 + 130) pixels. So it can get really sticky and I have to be honest, I'm not really that savvy when it comes to manipulating them. Once I saw that my site looked good in both IE and Firefox I just left it alone. LOL

Just make sure when you do change a value, always test it in the browser or preview so at least you'll know what change affected your page.
