Default ftp program recommendation

Can someone please recommend a good (preferably cheap) ftp program so I can save files to my website? Thanks!

Default Thanks to OPEN SOURCE you can get it free

Hi Dana!

I use FileZilla - it is FREE, and very easy to use. Don`t let the fact its free confuse you. It is an excellent piece of software.

You can download it from my website (Go to Webmaster Center > Downloads > Software ).

There is also a tutorial how to set it up in Webmaster Center.

Have a great time!

Default FileZilla and Cuteftp

FileZilla is free but doesn't come with an inbuilt HTML editor, where as Cuteftp does. However, you can configure filezilla to open up your editor of choice if you want to edit the files on the fly.

I would suggest Notepad++. It is a very light editor, free, open source and provides color coding for html and other languages.

We've used a couple of FTP programs, but now I'm just using my browser which I find much easier. I browse with Firefox, but have to use IE for FTP access which is ok. I much prefer accessing my FTP this way, it's easy, fast & simple.

Well let me just say I am lovin' Filezilla. I have been using WSFTP since 1998 and sometimes it's hard to switch away from something you know, even if it is archaic. I saw this thread and decided to give Filezilla a try and you guys are right. It's fab!

I like Filezilla and other open source projects because everyone can contribute! It is much like this forum. No membership or any money involved, but works and people solve problems, get help every day! There are good people around

I have found another excellent ftp tool + html editor. It is www.htmlkit.com. The tool is free and can be expanded to add many few features like css code snippets, etc by downloading plug-ins.

HTML KIT also includes a way to preview the html code in different browsers, without actually opening the browsers. This is very cool in my opinion.

I am still playing with it and I will later write a software review highlighting its merits and demerits.

So true phrodo! I always forget to recommend that one. Actually CoffeeCup itself is a pretty good editor.
