(and i implemented few of my old ideas which now just collecting dust). The disappointing thing is, i know i can do them but i don't have the time. Being a professional developer, having the professional knowledge to build web applications and being young (full of testosterones and energy) is i guess bad. You know too much which means you have high expectations from yourself but can't deliver as fast due to due to lack of time and commitment. My dilemma is that, i've a full time web development job which I sort of enjoy. But what i really want to do is work on my ideas and turn them useful products that people are happy to use and form my own company around my inventions. What do you guys do when you have too much on your brain? Its a bad trait for not being able to focus on the task at hand. How would you tackle this problem?

Well...I'm not known for using a Google to do list, don't even know what the heck it is, lol! But I like you, and many others have a ton of ideas. Fortunately I have some time.
I'm kind of old school and still keep my notes on yellow pads, notecards and the like. Oh I occasionally keep them on Notepad and file them away, but rarely go back. I like jotting down stuff on paper and keeping it in front of me.
To concentrate your time on two or three things at the same time is not necessarily impossible. I would take my To Do list and list three major projects to do. I would then list under each heading, what I wanted to accomplish each day. You may also want to jot down some goals weekly, and monthly, but don't look to far ahead. Kind of like you can't see the forest for the tree's!
Looking forward and setting goals is OK and even recommended, but you have to realize that sometimes short term goals, and more often long term goals fluctuate wildly. If something else that comes up interests you jot it down and save it for later. The main thing is not to get distracted from your main focus until they are complete. Most times it's just impossible to do everything at once!!

I've enjoyed watching this thread evolve. Don't know if you noticed but it was started back in May of 2007... less than 30 days after I started the forum. And it keeps going like the Energizer bunny.

Yes, a great topic.
I've never found a dull topic once I get into it and I love to try everything (not athletic—except I used to run 5 miles a day, fish a lot, go hiking and camping, and bowl once in a while and...). Photography is fun, and digital darkrooms sure beat the old kind. And like some others I could spend all my time doing computer stuff.
Years ago I learned a great lesson that changed my life and it relates to this discussion. Previously I had been indoctrinated with the old line, "Whether the job be large or small, do it well or not at all." As a result I gave up a lot of things I really did enjoy, like poking (I won't say playing) at the piano because I didn't have time to "do them well."
Then I came up with a new view. I can't remember who or what event taught me the lesson, but I ended up reversing the saying. It became, "Any thing worth doing is worth doing poorly!" Now that doesn't mean doing it poorly on purpose, or do everything poorly. It just means breaking the hold of that perfection nonsense.
What I learned to do was to pick out a few important things that I would do very well. This included what I do for my living. Then I would do a few more things well, not very well mind you, but well. I can hold my head up when I do them no matter who is looking. Then I do a lot of other things poorly. Let them laugh at my gutter ball; bowling is now on my enjoy no matter list.
In harmony with sgtmac66, it is a matter of scheduling. You schedule adequate time for the important activities and don't worry about the others. But do leave time for dreaming and exploring and enjoying life.

Shaun Connell, I checked out your site and it was impressive. The content was relevant and well organized.. I get an idea of how to organize my site's content based off of studying other websites... Good Job!

I feel you 100%. That happens to me all the time. What is comes down to is making a choice. There are only 24 hours in the day. You obviously can't do everything yourself so you need to prioritize. Write your ideas down. Once you're successful with one thing, use the income earned to invest in your next endeavor, and build a solid team or network of people to assist you. That's my best advice!

Great discussion,
I may rethink the "elevate three+ sites at once" plan.

Hello brakepad,
I launched three sites the week before last with the intent to build each one equally as time allows. Content, then afilliates, and so on.
But after reading this thread I realize my strategy is lacking. I've got the ideas and ability to provide content, but without a tangible plan for traffic building. So I've backed up to evalute keywords, traffic generators like twitter, facebook, ezines, (which is best for which site), and may even reconsider new domains for one or two.
Then look closely at the time element over the next 30 - 60 days. My objective is to keep up with my client commitments while making tangible progress on this 'new' more comprehensive approach to the www.
If I try to elevate three sites at once - I may get a discouraged with lack of results.
As I gather momentum (confidence) I might ramp up the ambition. For now though - I need to try to 'keep it real'.
Glad you asked,
mchallen
