Who’s on first?

Ok I have one question for you then gloverkelvin, in fact not actually a question but an observation.

If in fact you already have the idea for the site and know you will have this site, and at the same time since you are clearly headstrong on the forum idea then doesn’t this invalidate your original question regarding what is better, a forum or site, or at least for your own personal needs?

Also if I say that a forum is a bad idea and a website is better I might only be referring to my own site idea and target market. What if my web site is geared for 80 year old women who love to race motor cross bikes and discuss their adventures, and where to buy gear, or where the best jumps are etc. wouldn’t you possibly think for a moment that my forum area might be a little vacant because they are all out racing?

So just because I say forums might not be a good idea for my site but your site might be conducive for them.

I think all the advice and opinions that have been given in this post regarding this subject matter are actually accurate and honest information it’s just how each individual user and master debater like yourself decides to apply the information for their own specific needs.
“Life’s like a box a chocolates, you never…” Reminds me of movie. What you just sated is true.

Just the 80 year old woman part got me.

Why because you like watching 80 –year old women motor cross, or because you think they will be visiting your forum?

Default ...got what you were looking for?

Howdy again gloverkelvin,

Honest to God, {hand to heart} I'm trying to understand your point and help answer your question but after reading and rereading your last post, sentences like this; " ...Someone may say it best to go with the number one two day 8 weeks later that might say 58... make me work for every once of my 156 I.Q. and still....I'm comin' up short. My bad I suppose.

Anyways, the more important part here is I really think you've already answered your own question even before you posted your original post. From your fervent and repeated words supporting the idea of a forum I think you've already made up your mind on this...am I correct?

Maybe you were just looking for a debatable argument against? Hmm?

I think you got what you were looking for...

warm regards,

USMC_Buckaroo

truly a good site come first a form is mainly made to increase amount of users on your site
but if you don't have a good site you will unable to mange them and you will loose your prosperity .in other way i can say that to sold a branded product you also requires good platform .Like a person selling branded products standing on a road we will not believe on him even if they may be original one .So before good forum it is needed to make a good site

The only successful forum that I started from scratch (ie without any previous traffic) was for an organization with about 200 members. The forum took off like wildfire because a focused group of real life people wanted it and were ready to use it.

Starting a forum "in the wild" requires that you already have traffic or it will be painful to see the lack of posts each day. The only way to avoid this is to have at least 10 people commit to posting each day for up to 1/2 a year until traffic starts to build from your content.

Yes while creating a website before a forum will help you gain traffic to your forum it still is possible to create a successful forum from scratch alone.

I am not saying it is easy because it constantly requires you to work. You have to research topics, post new threads and even reply to them on a daily basis. It's about making your forum look active.

You have take into consideration: The length of time of creating a website and then creating a forum v creating a forum alone so that you don't waste your time aswell.

This think the same topic was mentioned previously by Lisa. You will need to have an established website with high number of visitors before you set up your forum.

People come to a site to get an answer to a problem or question, or just information. So you have to think like your visitor. Where will they go first a content rich site or a forum? I came to this forum because I was a regular visitor to 2createawebsite.com. Once I became a web site owner, I came to this forum to learn. I would not have come to the forum if I had not had a website or planned ton starting one right away. So I suggest you try to to think like your visitor. What will they think will meet their needs.

So True, I found my way here from 2createawebsite.com also. I found my way there from Lisa's you tube page. Now I am preparing the final touches on my site and some video content. Great forum.

I started with a blog and a forum both fresh without traffic. In hindsight, perhaps starting a forum may have been a mistake. I currently have thirty memebers of forum but only two or three regular post daily.

Why do people sign up to forums but never post a message? ha ha

Can be dis-spiriting when I see no one other than myself has posted throughout a day. Just gotta keep on pushing
