Default Miller Sports Cards

Hi Everyone,

I've been a regular reader for a while, random poster. I like this site because of the warm-hearted feel to it. It's not all code and math.

I launched my site last night (after 2 years of work on it)

Please let me know if anything needs improvement, more style, better coding, or if anything should be added. Thanks.

One thing your Welcome to Miller Cards image is cut off on the top and bottom around your glow effect. Your banner of Miller Cards seems to busy with effects to my eyes. Some times it is easier to go with the keep it simple motto. I also think it seems very cluttered with all the information. Maybe drop the links on the left since you have them in your menu up top. also on your buy this card now feature you may want to add a mouse over effect to it as the rest of your site has this but yet for what ever reason this link doesn't.

Your custom search is a very nice feature to have on a site like this. And I really like your background color gradient. Good choice on the colors for that very easy on the eyes.
I would have to say over all you did a very nice job with the site.

I fixed the Welcome to Miller Cards image.

I'm not so sure I want to get rid of links (don't want to shut out the non javascript users).

I tried a lot of CSS options, but can't find the right one for the form button: hover. Any suggestions?

Thanks for all of the input!

Hi Derek,

Congrats on your site. I agree that it's a bit cluttered so you might want to work on that. One thing that may help is increasing the width of your entire layout. Seems that you're using around 800 pixels or less (I didn't look at your code but I can tell it's significantly smaller than 1000 pixels). More than 95% of people have a 1064 resolutions or higher so with that much content I see no reason to go lower than 1,000 pixels.

I like the gradient background too!

Default thanks

Lisa,

Thanks. The stat is nice, that clarifies. I wondered that, and someone else mentioned it. The width is 800px. I think I got the number from an older, out-of-date.

That would open up a lot more room for everything! However with the number of pages involved, that project will take 3-7 days. I'll probably do it though in a week or two.

About the clutter.. I'm not fighting against the feedback, it is worrying me a little. I had this idea of a site with so many features that you'll never be bored with it. I don't quite have that many features right now, but I was kind of putting this together with intentions of cluttering the page. Am I really too cluttered? I guess that's a dumb question, but anymore thoughts on it?

Maybe widening the site 200px will just kick that problem out.

I'll work on it....

Thanks again,

-Derek

Default One way...

Your page does look a little busy. One way to help would be to eliminate the left column. That would still leave three. You already have almost all of the menu across the top and you could get the rest there. I don't think it helps to repeat the same links in both places.

One thing I would change slightly is the title sitting on the menu bar. I think you need to lift it up just a little so there is at least a little padding under the title text. Personally I think it might look better shifted to the far left rather than where it is but that is a matter of taste .

Good color and layout in general. I like your page a lot.

I think it looks very professional, I can see a lot of time went into that.
you need to get a link on ebay going back to your site and maybe amazon
can you put one card that maybe is a rare one of for bids on ebay then post a link in there with it going back to your site or if they do not allow that maybe just place it as text and write in there for people to copy and paste it to come to your site.

Derek over at Miller Sports Cards was nice enough to invite me to join their 12 team fantasy football league. All the owners are involved in internet sports in some capacity.
