Default redesigning my website... want reviews

Hey guys,

I'm redesigning my website and i wanted you guys to critique the new design. Its still in beta though. I've made a 'development site' (like TechieGuy said) in my site and am experimenting there. I've changed a few pages to look like the new site and i wanted your guys comments. Please visit: http://easyhtmltutorials.com/newlook/

Changes:
  • Removed the 'where are you right now'
  • Removed top navigation. Will put it some where else
  • removed the 'more' thingy at the bottom of the pages
  • new, cleaner structure design
  • ...

Please critique!

Very clean and neat. I like the "knock knock" at the beginning. It's good to add some fun in your writing from time to time. People take themselves way too seriously out here sometimes so that's good to lighten up the mood right off the bat.

I personally think the arrows underneath the links in your "Content" section could be removed. Don't think they quite fit there.

The header of your site is kind of blank and has a lot of empty space. It needs something else to fill it in, but you could still be working on that.

Otherwise, good start.

thanks for the comments lisa! About the arrows, yeah i'll remove them.

And you're right, i'm working on the header. I'm creating this logo for the site and in the rest of the header space, i'll put an ad.

and thanks about that 'knock knock' thing. It was there from the very beginning! You didn't notice then, i think, probably because the font was too small. I've changed the font now and have made it bigger.

One more thing that i did is that i manipulated with my includes. I changed them so the main content loads first and the right and left sidebars second. It wasn't so previously.

Nice start to the new look. Just a couple of things:

1. I agree with Lisa in that you have a lot of whitespace in your header. I'm sure you can come up with something to fill in there.

2. The EasyHTMLtutorials.com-Welcome! message is pushed to the right and the right part of the text has disappears behind your right column (I'm on IE6). I also find it two squished on that browser as well, meaning it has wrapped on two lines with now whitespace separating the lines.

I like the size of the font. It is very easy to read. Many people who view Web pages have trouble reading fonts that are two small.

Overall it is a nice and clean look.

Thanks for your suggestions TechieGuy!

I also noticed the IE6 glitch. The thing is that I've designed my website for Firefox and it looks perfect on Firefox. Now i'll have to add IE compatible styling !!! This is so annoying.

And, i added a new logo for the site. How do you like it??

As far as fonts go, the new font is arial. I was thinking of using Georgia, since it's better for the screen, i've heard. Huh?
