I agree, your homepage needs color. I think it would be really cool if you used a baseball, a basketball, a hockey puck, a football, etc. in a pattern that is really faded out and doesn't scream at you. I think that would add to the mood. However, I really like it that your text is on white and very easy to read. It drives me batty when you have to squint or even highlight something to read it.
As for the template, I like that too but there are some changes I would make if it was my website.
1. I don't like the red text with the purply blue background, it clashes. It would look great if it matched the purpley blue or was in black.
2. The box outlines don't match up at the bottom of your page - it might look more professional if they all ended on the same line.
3. The profile for the Yankee's is fantastic! I'd make it even bigger, maybe with statistics that are difficult to find but are intresting. I would love to know the most amount of people who have ever attended a game, who holds the Yankee Stadium record for number of home runs or grand slams in a game, etc. Some people might like to know which famous people have been there? (I'm not good at stuff like that, but am just throwing it out there.
)
