Default Check out my website

I am trying to build a content rich site about windows xp. The site is built on wordpress and has been on the internet slightly more than a year. This is my first website.

The hard part is to get the content to flow logically.

Please review my site and give me some advice!

not a bad start really,i like that blue theme,it's similar to the theme of my own site^^ ..anyway you may want to fill up the bottom of the page a bit, maybe with other images or content..and think about adding a few adsense ads on your homepage in order to monetize your site,it could be useful and goodlooking as well^^
since i'm coputer challenged I find the content really interesting,i'll visit your site often i guess

You’re having the same problem I'm having.

You want to turn your blog into a website. You can simulate it with some plug-ins and a better theme but it will still be a blog. By that I mean what ever you do the posts will appear in reverse chronological order unless you can find a plug-in to change that. I don't think it's a feature of Wordpress but to be honest I haven't had the time to look into it.

Doing what you (and I) want could fill up an e-book...Hmmm there an idea

What can you do now?

Create taxonomy

Get a new theme that has side bars...movable is better but hard to find.

Make sure it has widget support

Get Ultimate Tag Warrior plug-in

Create taxonomy.
This is how you want your content organized. The directory in yahoo or Google is taxonomy.

E.g. use categories in WP to create your taxonomy

Win XP
Win Vista
Outlook
...... Tips
...... Power uses
....... Config
...... Etc

You can have sub categories as in the Outlook example

Pick the appropriate category for the posts...you CAN put them in multiple categories.

You're doing this already...just refine it and use it as navigation.

Get a theme with 2 sidebars...movable is better and widget support.

Sidebars are where you put your navigation. Widgets are little "functionality boxes” e.g.: CATAGORIES widget, search this site widget, RSS subscribe widget, text box widget. recent post widget, recent comments widget...etc

Install UTW and "tag" your posts.

Tags=Keywords

How does this help? Let’s say you are writing a series of posts on outlook, a tutorial step by step or the post are just related and make up a group. They would all be in the outlook category but when some one clicks they're hard to find as a group.

Tag them all as Outlook Tutorial plus what ever else their related to. Now, when someone clicks on "outlook tutorial" tag they get a list off ALL the posts with that tag.

Take a look at blogs with tags...most have them.

Put a text box in a side bar and fill it with tags you want.

What you want to do isn’t easy but it isn’t hard either it just takes a fair amount of planning. You've got a lot of content to organize and that's the part you should do first.

Once the content is organized you could just build a website…you’ll gain the freedom to get exactly what you want but you loose the content management features of Wordpress.

Hope this helps

Default You could also use pages...

Had this idea while I was at work...

You can also create a new page template and use the template in (almost) the same way you use website templates. Put a static page on the front of the blog as an entry point into the "website of pages" and a link to blog posts...similar to what you have now...put "nav bar" on the blog posts temple pointing to the "website"

Theres a potential to get really messy and confuse the visitor but if it's planned right and done in a minimalist way it could work.

Gee, thanks...I really didn't think it was all that.

I was finishing up some stuff for the blog so I was on a roll. I'd been thinking about it for a while so I've got a few ideas.

Thanks again
