I am in the process of remaking my old military webiste. I had a forum, but that was before the blog days. I have had a blog before, but never in sync with a website, which as Lisa shows is very popular.
If you go to his site and actually click on Hours Worked it does break everything down for you. I might also suggest reading his blog and the PAJ story; both are very entertaining and had me laughing out loud.
Interesting you point out there are no key words, I was wondering if “Make Money” aren’t two key words?
James D is correct. There is a page on the website with a list describing how the time was spent.
I have found that for me, the 80/20 principle applies for website building. 80% of my time is spent on 20% of the content. I would get 80% of the page done in 2 hours and then spend 4 hours trying to figure out some stupid little thing. But I am not surprised. The same thing happens to me when I am building IKEA furniture.
As for the updates. I created a script that makes all the updates for the webpages. All I need to do is enter some data into the database and then press a button. It takes me about 10 minutes a day.
As for the homepage. I am glad that you did not notice the keywords, because it means that they are not that obvious. But they are there. Mostly in the links section on the right. And the few times that they are mentioned on the homepage they are encapsulated with <h2>. Something, I have heard, Google looks at with an approving eye.
Marvellous. Your focus is awesome and a great example for others. Some great informations to be absorbed from this post. It just goes to show you how innovative and creative people can be. Thanks a bunch.
Your site has a fascinating perspective - kind of reality programming meets diary and a picture within a picture - not sure where one begins and one ends.
When I first visited the site, I was a little confused by what it was all about, but the more I spent time with it, the more intrigued I became. On the one hand, it offers a look into the technical aspects of what is involved to run a site - along the ideas of a technical magazine - and on the other hand it provides your narrative - adding a personal touch. I think you've invented a new genre.
One question: In terms of hours worked, did you include the time you've spent thinking about it? Just kidding - obviously - but congratulations to you on your unique product. I did notice that your Alexa ranking is nothing to sneeze at.
Your site has been up a year and has paid for itself, great Job!
