Default How To Make A Website Review

Hey there guys,

Just updated one of my websites look and feel. Changed some web pages, but not all yet.

How To Make A Website

Any feedback will be appreciated. However this is a work in progress. Still lots of work ahead.

Thanks

Regards
Lawrence

Default A couple of suggestions

First, I would change some of the wording on your site. It probably comes from visiting Lisa's site (2createawebsite) and from comments on this site, but your site is called "make" a website. It is a little problematic to be making a website so similar although that is not unacceptable except that you have slipped, let's hope unintentionally, into using "2 create a website" multiple times. You really need to change that to "make a website, especially since you also use the "2." Personally I would also change that to the word "to." You do not want to look like you are copying someone else's site, even if it is inadvertent.

Second, your left hand column navigation has padding on the right side but none on the left (unless content is so constructed to leave the space on the right, I didn't look too far since it is layed out with tables and I only use css for layout). Either way, there needs to be some padding on the left so the text is not tight against the side of your page.

I agree with everything that James has said. I too would certainly change "how 2 create a web site" to "how to make a web site". I looked at your How To Make A Website blog and noticed that you have several posts with Lisa's You Tube video tutorials. I think that if you are going to post video's in your blog you should make your own videos. If nothing else I believe you should at least give Lisa credit for her You Tube videos that you have posted in your blog. Since your site name How To Make A Website is similar to 2 Create a Website, people might assume that Lisa is the owner of your site.

Good points. I have lots of step by step website creation tutorials of my own. Will upload my own youtube videos and create more.

The credit I give Lisa are:
1. by telling her that I'm promoting her videos - (Created a post to say I'm promoting her videos on my blog)
2. Send traffic to her sites. After all her website address is in the video clips.

hi and one other thing, when I visited your site I got the feeling that the content in the middle column is choked and a little untidy try using the empty space on the right to widen the mid column and better formatting the text
and one more piece of advice try the verdana, or trebuchet font on this site
and tell me what you think, and good luck

Good points, let me address and undress it.

Why would I want to copy someone else's site?

how 2, 2 make, 2 build, 2 construct, 2 create .... etc. is common sense
If you register a domain name and you don't get the name you are looking for then you improvise (hyphenate, etc.). After all I had SEO in mind with it.

It culd've been website4u, websitema8 etc. simple

lol, copy.

1. On my site I have a built in online code testing lab to practice html.
2. I'm busy with a program which will allow visitors to make a website on my site live and save it or e-mail to friends
3. I have interactive flash step by step tutorial. You can click next etc. in the videos
4. I focus on conceptualization, planning etc.
5. I'm adding a top floating bar later today.
6. Wipedowns is my next thing
7.....

Fresh ideas mate

Hope that made things clear.

I made the space there for a reason. Yes, It is an CSS layout, but I implemented a table in as well.

Some of my other sites are fully CSS.

Thanks, this is a work in progress. Will improve the overall feel of site as I go along.

Thanks. I can try the verdana font.

Ummmm... is this Lisa's site? LOL

I don't have a problem with him using Lisa's YouTube videos. As a YouTube member, you agree to allow others to use your videos and no credit is really needed. But I guess credit would be nice... especially since it looks like your site was inspired by 2 Create a Website. But you really should create your own videos. Otherwise your site and blog just ends up looking like you are trying to copy 2 Create a Website. No offense but it sort of looks that way if you want my honest opinion. As James said, I hope it's unintentional.

*********time passes************

Oh wait... I just went back to your blog and see what chris means! Wow Lajocar. Many of your posts are nothing but Lisa's video with no content. Yeah you need to work on a bit of originality. Otherwise the search engines aren't going to give your blog any love.
