Some people will be fine with you doing that - others will be livid and could demand that you remove it, or even take legal action. Always best to ask permission first where there is doubt.
It will likely be less of a problem where you have the opening paragraphs of an article, then the continued at so-and-so links at the bottom, but again I would check to be sure if in doubt.
I agree, a lot of sites out there won't have permission to use the images they are using, but that wouldn't hold up if it's you they decided to come after for using them, too.
It's one of those, do I, don't I things, isn't it? But if asking meant that all you needed was a 'photos courtesy of...' type link, it would be worth doing.
But if you do use them without permission, I would ceretainly credit the copyright owners anyway. But be careful - some images have a definite useage price and if you haven't paid it, you could end up with a serious problem on your hands. Not saying you will, but it's possible...
