Default tell a friend script

Guys,

I have the tell a friend script ready for anyone to use. You can donwload the script for free and use it for your website. The installation instructions are attached with the script. I would appreciate if you could give some feedback and let me know if you find any bugs.

The script is written in PHP4, so you shouldn't have any trouble installing it. All web host support PHP.

Webdev

This is great. I haven't downloaded it yet but just curious because I've tried one of these before but most of the email filters block these and they go to the person's junk or spam folder.

What would you suggest to rectify this? Is there really anything that can be done to prevent that from happening, especially since you're really at the mercy of the email provider.

I know I had problems with Hotmail and Yahoo. Haven't tested the others though.

attackdepression, that's a great question.

As i have noticed with hotmail, they do go to my junk folder. However, i do all my email tests with gmail.com since i use that more than hotmail. I don't know about other email providers. Gmail is fine. All emails come to your inbox.

attackdepression, you can try it yourself on your host and see how it behaves. That will give me more insight if it happens for everyone. I did a test from my host. Hotmail and gmail was fine.

But addressing your question of preventing them to going to your junk in hotmail or yahoo, i will have to research on that. Hotmail somehow knows that the email was generated form the script and puts it in your junk. But i have automated seen emails (mostly junk) come to my hotmail inbox.

I will get back to you with answer on this shortly.

Hey Webdev

I used to have a TAF script on my 2create site but removed it because a spammer hacked into it and used it to send emails to a bunch of people and it looked like it came from me because he used my email in the "To" field to send the emails. I got all these hate emails because folks thought I did it. It was horrible.

So my question is, have you ever thought of adding a captcha function to secure it?

Actually i was thinking about. A lot of websites offer email scripts with captcha for a small fee $$.
I have no problem offering email scripts with captcha it for free with few other bells and whistles thrown in.

Do you think offering captcha with emails scripts go in my favor? Do you think people will find it helpful and recommend my site to others? I mean i willing to trade fee for traffic and loyal visitors because essentially that's what my goal is, more traffic.

I suppose it could help, especially if you could find a way to partner with some of these existing PHP sites who have audiences that are looking for TAF scripts and captcha help.

Oh and one more thing. Have you ever done a backlink check on any of your main competitor sites? (other PHP sites). When I first created my site I would use google to type in the keywords I wanted to rank high for and then review the backlinks for the sites that showed up. Sometimes that will give you an idea of who to partner or exchange links with.

I usually check alexa for competitor's back links. Checking google for top rank php sites and partnering with them is a good idea. I'm skeptical if these big sites will partner with me let alone reply to my email request...lol

For backlinks i use ezinearticles. i also submit my pages to digg and dzone (digg for tech links) for getting back links and traffic.

I haven't put much effort in partnering with php related sites. That's my next goal. Thou I have had one link exchange so far.
