Default New nutrition site with a difference

Hi all,

I've recently made my site public, after developing it for 7 months. It's a nutrition/recipes/calorie counting site quite similar to e.g. calorie-count.com or fitday.com, except I've come up with a way of generating "random" meal plans to match whatever a user enters. E.g. you type in you want to eat 2400 calories, 100g protein and 200g carbs, and a meal plan will be generated to match those numbers as closely as possible. So I hope people will find this tool useful enough to switch from those other sites.

What I don't really have a good handle on is how usable the interface is. I'd like to make it as easy as possible for people to use, while maintaining the built-in flexibility I had in mind.

I'd be very grateful if you could check it out (in sig) and leave me feedback. What do you guys think? Feel free to be as scathing as you wish

Take care all,
Andy

Hey Andy,

I noticed that the header does not fit correctly and it overlaps your content buttons, try editing the image in a editor to make it a little smaller.

Also theres a lot of blank space around your main block of writing, try filling the surround area to keep your visitors intregued and interested so perhaps something like a monthly newsletter, or some social bookmarking links who knows

Theres lots of similar sites with the same niche so make sure you fully advertise your unique-ness and build your site around it.

Super Site & Good look with your site

Hi Rob, thanks a lot for looking at it.

On the header overlap, it seems to be an issue with Internet Explorer. The site looks the same in Firefox, Opera and Google Chrome, but IE breaks it does anyone know how to enforce cross-compatibility with IE?

Good point on the blank sides. I'll probably put a bar on the left hand side with the latest recipes submitted or something like that.

Thanks for the eyeballing!

Andy

Your site looks great. It looks like your banner is 123px in height, but your DIV tag is only 100px. The banner is also large in terms of bytes (136KB) which you should look into decreasing.

I noticed some of the pages, such as the features page, don't have page titles. You should add titles to all of your pages.

Great job.

Hi TechieGuy,

Thanks a lot for the tips and kind compliments, I've pushed through the changes you suggested (though I've still a few IE bugs to iron out!). Rob, sorry man I've not had the time to fill the blanks around the body text of the homepage but I'll do that asap (i.e. when I'm not so busy with my day-job)

Many thanks,
Andy

Looking good. The header is no longer covering the links (at least in IE7) and the titles are appear on the pages.

Next you should look into shrinking the header image down a tad (in terms of bytes) to make it faster to download.
