Default Please look at my site

Hi!

I started a website a month ago on how I lost 45 pounds. So many people were asking me for advice on weight lost I decided why not try it. I was able to develop some original material and got an adsense account but very little traffic. I did publish some articles on ezine that I got some short term traffic but no one clicked the adsense ads. I have also been posting some comments on some of the weight lost forums and have submitted my site to dmoz but so far haven't seen it show up in the directory. Just trying to figure out what I am doing wrong or am I expecting too much too soon. Also wondering if I picked too broad of a topic. I got a lot of interest in my article on Exercise for those who don't want to exercise. Would it be better to focus on that area alone? It sure would be a smaller site but maybe I will get more traffic because I will have less competition. The other thing I can't figure out is why when I google my articles show up in ezine but my site doesn't show up which has the same articles but I guess that has to do with the rating game. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Tom http://loseweight-my-story.com

Hey Tom,

There is nothing wrong with choosing a broad topic

You site has definitely got potential.

Things to reconsider:

- What has space and space shuttle got to do with losing weight. Rather put health and fitness related images on site or people doing exercises etc.

- Create a proper banner.

- Content is one font size and too big. Play around with formatting

- Work on overall color scheme

......

Start with these things

Default Thanks for the suggestions!

I appreciate the input. No real reason for the space banner. I was trying to be different. I will explore changes in font and color. Thanks!

Default A couple of suggestions—

Tom

Here are a couple of things I think could really help your site.

First, your layout needs a little work. Look on this page at your question and Lajocar's answer. Don't read, just look at the appearance. Notice how his writing is broken up with what is called "white space" instead of being just one big "gray" area. Your whole page is made up of all really long, solid paragraphs. It would read a lot better if broken up with subtitles, some shorter paragraphs, and some topics converted to lists.

Second, think about how what you are saying meets the interest of people who come to the site. I would rewrite a little and even tone down your doctor's incident (at least for the front page theme). In the same way I would not even refer to the particular diet program names unless I first justified why those particular ones. It is an invitation for visitors to go off to their sites right off.

Why? They may be attracted by the fact that you lost the weight. Then they want to find out how you did it. And they want to hear that you may have insight that they wouldn't find elsewhere. Better to say, "When I realized that I needed to lose some serious weight I searched for a way to do it that worked, and I found it. Let me tell you what I did to lose 20 pounds in the first month and another 20 in the next few weeks."

If they think you were so freighted by the doctor's comments that you were super motivated or that you just followed a commonly available diet to lose some weight they may not choose to stay with you long.

Just my thoughts, but I think they have some merit.

Hi Tom,

I'm afraid I'm no expert at this, but for what it's worth:

A month is a pretty short time. It takes a while to get enough inbound links etc to move up the rankings. Also, some people say Google has a 'sandbox' in which new sites are kept for a while.

Maybe you need to be adding something regularly. I read the site, and found it interesting, but I'm not sure I would bookmark it and come back. Perhaps a 'receipe of the week' or regular updates on how you are keeping the weight off might get people to visit more than once?

Could you make it a bit more personal - before and after pictures of you for example? I really warmed to Lisa's site because after watching her videos and reading her blog posts I felt like I knew her a little bit, and so it was as if I was taking advice from a friend.

Good luck with the site!

Hi Tom,

The idea is good. The site does have potential, it has a lot of information to offer for those who are interested in such things.

You need to do some adjustment on the site layout, the font and the colours. Make your site more colorful, to draw attention.

Use the same font in the same sections, try to make the section to have the same aspect.

Try to create a weekly newsletter for example, where you regularly send some useful information, such as "tip of the week", or weight loss product or method of the week, etc. This would attract more visitors to your site, plus you would have a growing group of people who would come back to site on a regular base.

Success and keep up the good work.
