Thread: Please review Concept Skateboarding - Warning highly addictive skateboarding videos!

In the last couple of days I have been working hard on my first site, Concept Skateboarding. I guess I was getting slightly lazy with it before but I couldn't ignore it's potential anymore. I just converted the whole site to Wordpress because all the functionality I was trying to add to the original website is already available with Wordpress. I think the best decision I have made with regards to Concept is converting the whole site to Wordpress.

Goals for the site

1) Reach 1000 newsletter subscribers

2) Get back on page one for 'secrets of skateboarding' (since all the changes I have dropped slightly)

3) Take the number 1 spot on Google for 'skateboarding videos'

4) Reach 1000 daily unique visitors

Working on

1) I'm still adding more images to give it the skateboarding website feel it needs

2) I will be doing something with the footer, not sure what yet.

Your content needs to match youskate to get the no.1 spot. You need to have high resolution video's on your homepage. Because, the current crop of video's: Tilt Mode Army looks poor, even before hitting play.

The idea of the site is to show videos from the entire top companies but not host them myself. If I were hosting the videos myself I would be breaching copyright laws. The other idea of the site is to add more value than one of the websites on page 1 for 'skateboarding videos' (skatevideosonline.net). I feel that Concept Skateboarding already is a much nicer site to look at and use than my competitor. It just doesn't have the backlinks yet.

Just show the best content on your homepage and leave the low res stuff for the purists to find. Remember: Your Homepage is your business card to the world.

Visited Concept 2 days ago and saw the changes and for the most part liked it alot. The navigation is alot better, and the layout looks great in the wordpress format. The banner with concept skateboarding blends in really well and makes everything more smooth and professional.

Now it's time for my complaints , The first thing that caught my eye when i visited it was the blue background. Personally it's very distracting and doesn't blend as well as a darker color would. I have weird tastes with design so some opinions may vary.

I also noticed that the sildeshow type deal haha doesn't show pictures (using firefox if that makes a difference), but other then that it seems to work fine.

Your ad placement is good as it did not distract me whatsoever and I like the horizontal ads below slideshow . If you were thinking of making your money off of adsense then you maybe should put a bit more in there, but I am known to crowd my websites with ads haha.

I know it's stuggling to get started but that's because your getting into a tough niche. If you want I could email all of my members on my forum with a description to your website and a link to your subscribe feed.

Thanks very much. I think to this day the best thing I have did with Concept Skateboarding is change it to the Wordpress platform. Everything is so easy now. For example I was running a commend script before and I got over 200 spam comments a day Now with Wordpress I only get a couple of spam comments. Adding new content is a breeze and all the functionality I could wish for can be installed in minutes.

I can see what your saying about the blue background. It was originally black and I liked it but many people said it was too dull looking. I will play around with the background and see what I come up with

I know it's very annoying. The problem is that slideshow requires permissions to be set to 777 for the images to show. Concept Skateboarding is hosted with HostGator and they don't allow the 777 file permission

Thanks to TechieGuy's recommendation I just installed a plugin called Easy AdSense. Now 3 AdSense blocks should show on every page apart from the homepage I have to say it's an amazing plugin.

I just hit 100 newsletter subscribers yesterday. I got them in under a month thanks to Youtube
