Default Bit off more that I can (reasonably) chew

I've decided that my original goal of a blog with a website was too ambitious so I'm narrowing my sights (no pun intended) to a blog. As I put more work into building my blog content, I'm noticing that my site is taking forever to load. I'm not sure if it's the pictures, affiliate ads, adsense ads or if it's just my system. Or, all of the above .

Any advice on increasing the speed of loading? Can I get some suggestions on how I'm coming with the site in general? Again, I'm slowly changing my pages to blogs as well.

Wow, you're not wrong. It took about 30s to load for me.

Your home page isn't that large: it's about 180k without ads and 360k with them. I also got very little extra load time with the ads (28.9s vs 29.6s). The pictures aren't a big problem either: without them, I got 143k and 34.8s.

I think something is timing out. The page seems to load quickly, but then hangs just before the sidebar appears. I suspect you have a widget or something that's being blocked form talking to a server and is stopping the page from loading until it realises it can't. Try disabling some plugins and see if you can find the problem one.

I don't know if you made any changes since the last post, but your site loaded in a couple of seconds on my computer.

Ok, I'd reactivated my Easy Adsense plugin prior to my noticing the lag time and I downloaded the WP DBManager just before West would have checked the site. No, idea if this would have have a difference but it's running faster for me now as well.

Thank you both.

Runs fast for me. Maybe your server was having an issue for a little while... hmm. Keep an eye on it!

It loaded fast for me as well. If you want to optimize the images to load even faster try using smu****. It is a Firefox add on. I used it on my site which has about 500 images total and it helped my page speed a lot. You could use a little more color in the header and on the left side especially. It is a lot of black and white as I scroll down. Maybe make all your titles blue or red or whatever color you think would look nice.

It's been loading fine since the post but thank you so much for the comment regarding the colors, I've been playing around with other themes. The themes I like most seem to have more blue in them. The black and gray isn't working for me anymore.
