Default What's the deal with the table of contents?

There's been something about SBI sites I've been wondering about for years. I never knew what it was called until I looked at Nori Evoy's site after the redesign. Lo and behold, the name of this group of links was there under the main content on the home page called table of contents. Why is this table of contents there and what purpose does it serve? I assume it's something great if SBIers are doing it, but not everybody is. Can someone give me the scoop?

Hello there,

Search engines (at the moment) cannot read or follow graphical links that are in say the navigation bar. The TOC is merely for the search engine robots to follow.

It would be interesting to apply some eye tracking software to it though and see how many human users actively use it.

That makes sense for it being a search engine thing. I always thought it was a bit aesthetically unappealing for human eyes.

Your right; more commonly you find footer links - these will become more and more common as the templates soon switch over.
