Default Should I Use The Same Niche?

Hello everyone,

I am on Day 2 of Site Build It. I was wondering if it is a good idea to build an SBI site with the same niche as my exisiting site, but with rewritten content. My current niche for my non SBI site, "internet security", has a Wordtracker ranking of 493. Or should I go with a altogether new theme, such as "internet scams", which has a Wordtracker ranking of 1438? Thanks in advance for any help or advice

Chris H.

I would strongly suggest against that unless you have a completely different spin. I tried that with my first SBI! site that I canceled in 2003. I tried to re-work 2 Create a Website. Bad idea. I was uninspired because I already did most of the work on my first website. I got bored quickly and gave up.

That's just my opinion. As I said, if you can come up with a fresh, new angle that's one thing but if you try to re-work an existing site you run into the temptation of just re-writing your old content and not coming up with anything fresh.

What's wrong with something new? I say try out the internet scams idea - if you tried to essentially "photocopy" your existing site, you'll probably be wondering why you can't feature articles in your first. I can just visualize your frustrations now as you get caught by the 'traffic hump'.

The only scenario I see this working is if you SELL your first site without a non-compete clause (having downloaded the keyword list etc etc) and then set yourself up again, but from a new angle.

Thanks Lisa and ed7up for the advice. I think that I'll follow your advice and create a SBI web site with a completly different topic such as "internet scams". I'm actually already bored with the niche of my first site, "internet security". So, I'm sure I'll get bored pretty quickly with rewriting my Internet Security web site.

The alternative is to create another site based on a different seed keyword, or separate but related topics. You should have plenty of ideas based on lateral brainstorms.

For example you could have one site on digital audio and another on digital videl. This way you can link them together to drive traffice.

Reminds me of Elad - he built a family of websites based around the 'Coolest Kids Birthday Parties', 'Coolest Kids Birthday Cakes' etc etc. and is very successful.

You're not just building a website, you're building a business. Each website is another important asset and tool, but if you can produce a family of hormonious, complementary and related websites then there are massive benefits. For example, you can build and maintain one email list - you can link them altogether and leverage each other's link credibility and also prove yourself as a credible source for visitors.

But one site at a time. Building block approach.
