Leaving Building Blocks/Using HTML
Hello Babblers/SBI'ers
I followed the directions given to upload my HTML. Sometimes the only way I understand if I'm doing this correctly is to repeat what was said.
I set up my root folder and my sub folders that contain image, support and media files. I have also set up my img folder and my template folder.
First Question.
Did I follow the steps to save my html files in my folder by going to view source selection on my webpage and copying and pasting to MS Word. I did a "save webpage as" but I had to add the letter "l" to htm.
Second Question
Why do I have to save a template from my site to my editor? if I just copy and paste the code from my website to my editor make the revisions then upload. Can I do this?
Third Question
In theory and just for testing, can I upload my html files to the website that has the exact same code. I am having some errors come up, is that due to the same code being uploaded?

I would NOT use Word for saving HTML pages. Use a web editor (Kompozer is free) or notepad. <br />
<br />
You can paste your code right into an editor. That's what I did. Then I followed the Transition instructions for uploading each page. You just can't upload the pages to the web from the editor. You have to go through Site Central.<br />
<br />
Here's how I did mine. I created my template from scratch and I loaded it in Dreamweaver. Then I went to my site on the live server and copied just the content and put the content into my new template on Dreamweaver.<br />
<br />
Then I made sure I named all the folders the appropriate names, I saved all my images to the image-files folder, etc. Then I uploaded each page per the Transition Guide.<br />

Have you read through the Transition Guidelines? It was really a big help to me and the instructions were pretty thorough.

Thank you again for your response. I have read the transition guidelines and it is pretty thorough. Sometimes I have a habit of getting ahead of my self and not slowing down to read everything one step at a time. <br />
<br />
I have to work on that issue. <br />
<br />
But anyway, it sounds like I can just use the free 3-column template you or Ken provide and do the exact same thing. I'm also using dreamweaver.<br />
<br />
Is this the case, in terms of the 3-column vs 2 column?<br />

You got it. The key is making sure your site is fully functional in dreamweaver FIRST. Make sure you have all the folders named properly (according to the Transition guideline). Make sure your links all work. You should be able to view your site on your local computer.<br />
<br />
Then when that's all done, go back and read the section on "includes." You definitely don't want to have to update every single page if you want to update your navbar or header. That should be the last thing you do because you have to alter some of your code to make it work with SBI!.<br />
<br />
But the real key is getting your site complete in dreamweaver first and having all your files pointing to the right places (style sheet, images, etc.) Do that and it will make the transition much smoother.<br />

Hi Lisa/SBI'ers<br />

I followed the instructions and named my folders correctly and placed my files in the appropriate folders. <br />
<br />
Lisa, I downloaded your free 3-column CSS template and copied my content into the template and saved each file into dreamweaver. When I saved the pages that includes the template, I placed all my files in the root folder. I opened all my files where I saved them and they all open up with the dreamweaver application with your template. <br />
<br />
But, when I enter the transition template stage, I'm okay until I get to copy the code to my editor/dreamweaver. It still reads the same code from the original L&F that I chosen. <br />
<br />
How do I get the transition template to read to code of your free 3 column CSS template?<br />
<br />
In site central, all my pages says uploaded, but no cigar? Nothing changes on the live site. Am I supposed to save the 3 column images to the "imgs" folder. If so, I'm a mac user and was not sure how to pull those images. It does not drag and drop like the original L&F I used to save in the "imgs" folder.<br />

That's just it. I didn't use the transition template. You only need the transition template if you are going to keep your navigation and header. You're using my complete template so you don't need that template. You can ignore that step.

Hello Again..<br />
<br />
Lisa, I downloaded your template into dreamweaver. I currently don't have any files of my content uploaded in site central. For now, I just want to upload your template live on my website. My content is saved in another folder for now separate from my original root folder. <br />
<br />
When I uploaded your template in site central I can clearly see your template from dreamweaver when I select it. But, I get the following message:<br />
<br />
style.css<br />
The above link to your css file must be referenced to one of the following: support-files folder(s), not the root of your directory, as it is now.<br />
These files will not show up in the STEP 3 table where you Upload your Images and Supporting Files and will appear broken on your page.<br />

Do I put your style.css in my support-files folder or keep it in the root folder?<br />
<br />
Question 2<br />
<br />
When I select the choice to upload images. Site Central tells me I have no images to upload even though I saved your template images in my image-files folder.<br />

Yes, your style.css file should be inside the support-files folder and make sure you page references it using the right path.<br />

Are you sure you are calling up the images from the image-files folder in your HTML code? If you are, then that should trigger SBI! to tell you to upload them.
