Default SBI and domain names

I know you get your domain name through SBI, but do they or you own the name? How would you bring a name you already own?

What happens if down the road you want to go to another host?

It looks like the money is absolutely worth it the first year, but could those who've stayed with SBI for years explain why?

thanks.

You own the content and the domain. If you ever want to leave SBI! you can transfer the domain to another host just like you would if you were leaving any old regular host. Trust me, I did this already with my first SBI! site. I ignored the Action Guide and my site did absolutely nothing so I moved the domain and content to another host. No problems at all.

This may seem a stupid question but there seem to be many, many SBI domain names that are 3 hyphenated words and I'm wondering if there is a reason for this ? Is it a technique for getting found easily or for being more memorable ?

SBI! suggests hyphenated domains because the engines can supposedly read the keywords better if they are separated. I personally don't think this is necessary anymore but some years ago this made a difference.

The other reason for hyphenated sites is to break out the seed keyword that you wish to be found for. Many SBI'ers register the hyphenated version, but also purchase the non-hyphenated.

It also provides a clean look and feel to your site visitors on the search engine results pages
