Question Is SBI! the best option for what I want to do?

Hello everyone,

I'm glad to have found a site that is somewhat active to ask about this. I'm not an SBI! newbie. I've been an affiliate for years and have owned SBI! once. I've even gone through all of the days of what was available to non-owners of the video action guide. I wasn't able to continue with my project, so I had to give it up. Now, I'm interested in a different business model.

I'm interested in building a site whose sole purpose is to be a backup for direct sales (hard goods site). Basically, I really don't care if I am indexed by google and all those other important things most website owners care about. I want the site simply to be an online presence where people can order products instead of making a personal sale with me.

So.....I'm torn if I SBI! is better. I know ALL of the goodies SBI! comes with, but I'm not sure if I should go with it or build it in some other way. Oh and my main reason I'm asking about this is that I remember in the action guide that there was some sort of penalty with directories or search engines if you have products for sale or affiliate links on your site before a particular amount of time that your site has been live. Is this true? I ask because I wasn't planning on the site being so heavy on the content and I'd want to be able to have the products available for sale on the site in a timely fashion.

Oh and how much does the shopping cart cost? From what I recall, I think it is extra, right?

Hi and welcome to WB!

OK so if you aren't concerned about SEO then how do you plan to draw traffic? Just curious. Not to say that's the only way but how do you plan to get people to find your site?

I don't know much about the shopping cart add-on. I know Store Build It! was discontinued but I think there is some sort of add on you can buy. They don't make that very clear on the actual site. Sounds to me like the determining factor is going to be your shopping cart/checkout system so you need to find out from SBI! the details about their system (how flexible it is, etc.) and compare that to a regular host that has normal ecommerce shopping add-ons.

Traffic would be generated through mostly offline means. For example, most Avon reps (and other similar direct sales companies) utilize their company provided sites mostly for the convenience of their customers to order from the web. They aren't trying to optimize the page for Google (I don't even think it's possible anyway.) This makes it easier so they won't have to take orders over the phone or in situations where meeting up with the rep is not feasible. This is exactly the way I'd like my site to be.

Obviously, I'm not banking on huge amounts of visitors for sales, that's why I'm not sure if I want to go with SBI! for this.
