Default Blogging with SBI!

Hello All

I have read many articles with SBI and just wanted to be sure of how the blogging works. You can only add a blogging page within your SBI. If I only wanted to do a Blog and not build a website, I could not use SBI. As I'm typing this, I guess the answer is obvious. It's not called Blog Build It. But I thought I read somewhere that you can upload your wordpress content in SBI so you can take advantage of the SBI benefits as if you had a website.

I just want making to make sure, if not I guess wordpress can be the way to go.

Thanks in advance.

This is a good question because I think a lot of people get confused about this. You cannot physically host a standalone WordPress.org blog on SBI!'s servers. Now, they do have a "blogging feature" that is built into the software but it's not like the blogging platforms that we've come to know. It's more like a site index or page that automatically lists your latest content updates.

Now you can use WordPress.com with SBI!. The difference is the content is hosted on WordPress' servers and you cannot use AdSense (no javascript allowed on WordPress.com). And you can use SBI!'s InfinIt! feature to make it look as if it's sitting on your domain.

Bottom line, if you want a self-hosted WordPress.org blog with all the bells and whistles (AdSense ads and total functionality) like my blog http://blog.2createawebsite.com , I would not use SBI. But if you are OK with using WordPress.com (which is limiting) then you can use that with an SBI! site via their InfinIt! feature.

Default What about InfinIt!?

Lisa can't you use Infinit! and combine a content site with a WordPress.org blog? Of course making them look the same would be a bit of a challenge but it is doable.

And also doesn't it depend on what kind of site you want to have? WordPress has some limitations if you want to add lots of pages with a sophisticated navigation.

On the other hand if you just want to Blog in the classic sense, then I do agree.

No, it is my understanding that Infinit only works with WordPress.com which is very different from WordPress.org. If you want to be able to host ads on your site you need the .org version and the ability to create a MYSQL database on your host. SBI! does not support MYSQL. I understand that the .com version is possible with SBI! but people should know that there will be some limitations.

Default I did it for a client

As a SiteSell Coach, Lisa, I did that very thing for a client. You can read this article in the Help section to see how it's done. Sorry only SBIers will be able to read it.

And the beauty of being able to use WordPress.org is you can make your blog look a lot like your SBI! site. There's an article in Tips and Techniques HQ that explains how to do that.

Of course you are going through InfinIt! so yes it's hosted on a different host and it uses a CPanel subdomain to access the Blog but it can be a regular link right on your SBI! Nav bar.

Oh OK, that's good to know because I was unclear on that. I get a lot of questions about that here so this will be helpful.
