Question SBI! Forums

Hello readers!
My first post, YAY!!

I have been scanning this forum for a few days now and I am finding some information to be invaluable and extremely helpful, so a big thanks to everyone for sharing their thoughts.

Anyway, let me get on before you all get bored.

I am wondering if (when I launch my website) I could have a forum on my website? I ask because I‘ll defiantly be using SBI! to do everything.

If not then how could i add a forum to the website - once created?

Thanks in advance

Hi cambilfrancis,

Welcome! You can add a forum but you have to host it somewhere else and use SBI!'s Infinit feature to redirect the forum to your own domain so it looks as if you are hosting it on your SBI! domain name. So yes you can do it but you have to host the forum on another web host. And of course that would mean an additional cost. SBI!'s hosting platform is not like a standard web host so they don't allow PHP, etc. so that's why you have to take the extra steps for installing chat rooms, forums, etc.

Lisa thank you for the quick response.

Does VBulletin host forums?
could I rent a forum from them and have it linked to my SBI! site, like you say?

vbulletin is the software that powers your forum. So you would buy a vbulletin license and then host it on another host like I mentioned above. Then you would use the InfinIt feature to synch up your forum with your SBI! domain.

Sure. Just like anything there's a bit of learning involved but I was self taught and installed the forum on my own. I definitely would NOT consider myself a techy.
