Link Exchange????
Why is SBI still pushing link exchange if there is no longer a benefit to it. Am I confused about this subject? I know that a link carries more weight if it is one way. But are 2 way links useless now? If so, then maybe they should change the program so that you can can only join the program by putting someone's link on your site and then hope that your content is good enough for someone else to link to you also. That would really make people pay attention to their content.

Link exchanges are pretty much useless from a backlink building and SEO experience but they aren't useless in terms of two sites helping each other build traffic. For example if I partnered with another web development site that had an audience as large as mine, we could both funnel traffic to each other. So while their Value Exchange is not completely useless, it might be time for SiteSell to do a re-write and explain how the engines view link exchanges now.

Oh and I meant to add I still get decent traffic from a few sites I exchanged links with 3 years ago. No, it probably does nothing from an SEO perspective but the traffic benefits are there if both sites have enough visitors to make it worth it.

Value exchange is mainly there to help all the newbies get some incoming links to start the process rolling. As you only get links from related websites (if you choose wisely) it helps gain a small amount of traffic and gets your site indexed quicker.
Ken does state somewhere that as time goes by you will rarely use value exchange.
Swapping links may not be the perfect link you can get but still does carry weight even if it is a tiny amount. If the website is related it carries more weight and if they have a high page rank it will carry more.
The world wide web is made from links, you won't get punished by search engines for swapping links, only if you start swapping with everyone that asks, i.e spamming.
Choose your link partners wisely and swapping links is ok. My opinion though

Well I have a marketer friend who conducted an experiment a few months ago.
he designed 10 blogs and interlinked each of them with the other 9
and posted relevant content on them all, and did nothing else, and in 3 months he had a pagerank 2 for 8 of them and a pagerank 1 for the last 2.
I don't know if that means anything but it was interesting

hi Queen,
The problem with that is that you have to give them a reason to wanna pay you for a link, ask yourself why would anybody want to pay for a link like that?
If you can give a good reason then ok, but normally I don't think you should do that.

I think that the link exchange program can be great for a new site. I have one really great link exchange that has brought me around 100 vistors a month, which has been great for my new site. I only hope that I can do the same for someone else soon!

I think that proves nothing because I got a pagerank of 2 after 3 months without doing link exchanges at all, just by writing content.

Well that's great, I also have a page rank 3 after only 60 days on my Egypt blog without link exchanges, but his experiment deserves to be looked at, that's all I'm saying.
Cheers, Amr
