Lightbulb The Myth of Luck

Quote:
Not only is planning ignored but so is the part about learning the fundamentals of marketing
Also, a lot of folks think the successful were just set up. But what can be more further from the truth. As you so eloquently say "It takes hard work and dedication coupled with a willingness to learn". So in actuality luck has very little to do with it(otherwise I would be much better off at a Los Vegas Casino lol).

It's true that doing business online is waaay less expensive then a traditional brick and mortar. But that's the only thing people want to hear.

True. Now of course luck probably does play a small role (For example I think getting into this business early on has its advantages for me and I happened to be in a position in my life 11 years ago where I was able to focus my time on this. Some may refer to that as "luck") But mostly it's hard work, dedication and of course passion.

I agree. I wonder what small role luck will play for me lol(not that I'll depend on it).

I think you said something to this effect(a touch of luck) on a comment on your blog. You had to post-pone your graduation to summer school because of one lousy credit in 1998. Yet the extra time to focus was a blessing in disguise(or was I just seein' things lol).

What an encouraging thread, I'm on day 5 of SBI! and I have been reading and planning going on a month now. And I still see my self going back reviewing in day 3 and 4. I tell the scale of what is called a day, is not even close to what has to take place in order to create a solid website.

I like the energy here and to everyone who started this journey, I wish you the best..

Smile Excited to have found this thread!

Hello! Tonight I found this forum through a search on Topix.com, and really excited, for I'm a budding SBI enthusiast as well.

Though I'm not building a site yet, I'm just as excited by the incredible free e-books and all they are teaching me. On another forum I belong to I signed up as an affiiliate through a wonderful gal after learning so much from her...not just about SBI, but through the internet marketing questions that were posted in general.

Lisa, I was thrilled to see you on this forum, for the other day I followed a link from the 5 Pillar e-zine and eventually landed on your blog. One of your videos that explained the duration of your journey to your point of success was just what I needed to hear. Though I have only been working on my IM education since July 2008, there are times when I have wondered if I am just kidding myself, but deep inside I know that I am on the path I'm supposed to be on.

Anyway, just wanted to say hello and "Yeah" for SBI!

Until next time...
Annie

Unfortunately the get-rich quick hype on the net has many people believing they can just build any kind of site and people will just come, buy whatever they're offering, participate, etc. but there are basic fundamentals such as supply and demand, building credibility, etc. that are often ignored. The principles of marketing still apply online.
Lisa is right on the money about this. There are so many people that think all they have to do is slap some content together on a website and/or blog, throw in a bunch of affiliate ads, and can sit back and count the dollars coming in. Right? If it were only that easy everyone on the Internet would be millionaires. Thank you Lisa for the great advice!

That is an excellent quote. I think I'm going to write that one down. Thank you James for sharing these words of wisdom.
