Default Backing Up Website Content

Is there a way to download and save all of the website content from my SBI website in case something should happen to my site or their servers? I know it's a long shot that anything will happen, but I am a "just in case" suspicious type of person.

Not that I know of. All of my content is backed up on my PC since I use the "Upload Your Own HTML" method for my SBI! site but if you don't I guess you would have to do it the long way and go to "File, Save As" on your browser.

forget about this program. It is useless. It will not download your support files from SBI, I believe. You cannot use the code that is downloaded. So how are you going to rebuild your pages on SBI with that?

The best is just copy the text, images-code and javascript code of each SBI page at Site Central from each textblock and place it into a word text file, or in a OpenOffice (freeware) text file.

If you need it one day just go to the text file and copy the whole lot as text and insert it at Site Central into a textblock. You have to rebuild the page title, keywords and the headline
from sceatch but this is no problem and goes fast.

When you build a page at Site Central don't use so many textblocks. And use your own code to insert images. This makes it easier for you to copy a page including the images.
When you use the SBI grafic block to insert an image you cannot copy the image as the image-code is not visible in the textblock.

Save all files which are in the SBI support folder and in the SBI images folder before you upload them to SBI. You cannot download any files from SBI on your PC.

In the end you should have a support folder, an images folder and a pages folder all saved on your PC and then copy it on a USB stick or burn it on a DVD.

You can't use the code in the html pages to rebuild your SBI Site as the coding is cluttered with SBI Code. You would not know which code to select.

That's not a problem Nobi,
If you have a program like dreamweaver you can see the html page in the design panel and select what you want and swith to the code view and the code for the part you selected will be high lighted in the html.

Cheers, amr

Man! Thanks a lot for this tip, I downloaded NVU and checked It. Yes, you are right..this will save me a lot of time. Before I have started copying already 7 pages manually, what a waste of time and so annoying....as I had to copy each textblock by hand.
Now I just use www.httrack.com and download all pages and save them on a CD or USB Stick. When I need it I open up NVU (freeware) and just copy the highlighted text of a page into the textbox of a new SBI page, including images links and javascript code. That's great....thanks a lot.

Backing up your website is indeed a very important thing to do. I did not back up my site and as a result of not renewing my web host subscription, my site is offline and I have no copy what so ever of the over 40 pages to my web site. Trust me, I will not make the same mistake again. In the future, I'll use Kompozer(formerly NVU) to make a back up copy of every page of my site on my hard drive, plus a memory stick or CD. I certainly wan't to back my site up on removable storage as well - not just my hard drive. As my hard drive could crash as well, causing me to lose all the data on my hard drive. A matter fact, it is a good idea to back up any important data/files on your hard drive. I have a friend who just had his hard drive kick the bucket, and he has lost a lot of files, that will not be easy to replace. Unfortunately, like me, he is learning the lesson to back up your data the hard way.
