Can we upload wordpress to SBI?
Hi everybody!
Everywhere I see people telling us that the best thing to do with this web 2.0 thing is to have a wordpress blog uploaded to a server. Can we upload wordpress to SBI?
Thanks,

Don't believe so learner, but I've never used wordpress so I can't say that 100% certainty. Maybe someone else knows...

I just joined SBI. Has this question been answered? I also have another question. Can you start a forum with SBI?
I'm still going through the videos, but I thought I would ask some questions also.

Wordpress needs PHP and MySQL.
Almost all the hosting companies support these two. I don't know about SBI (but definitely it should as all Linux based hosts support these two).
Otherwise find a cheap hosting company. You can find good hosts for as little as $5/month.
It will also have other benefits like links from different IP, etc.

You can use SBI's Infin It! feature to add wordpress to your site. Infin It! allows you to create a subdomain for a blog, forum, shopping cart, etc. and map the subdomain to your main site.

You can use either Infin It or content 2.0 to create a blog on an SBI site. with content 2.0, instead of plugging a 3rd party blog into your site, you would created "invitation" forms on your site and allow visitors to submit content for you. You just have to create a separate invitation for each category.

Yes, West is right. Note: This post was originally started a year ago when this was not available.
West, I've been trying to fully understand this and maybe you know... mapping is still not quite the same as actually being able to host your blog on your domain correct? So the content is still sitting on WordPress' servers right? The SBI! sites are not technically hosting the blogs. Or am I mistaken?

Mapping works something like this:
When a new subdomain is created, a new folder is also created.
For example if I create sub.domain.com, a folder named "sub" will be created in public_html or www.
When I access the subdomain using the browser, the subdomain is "mapped" to the folder and the files in the folder are display. In other words, the subdomain "points" to the folder.
If I install Wordpress on the subdomain say blog.domain.com, I will also be able to access the blog at domain.com/blog/
This means blog.domain.com has been "mapped" to domain.com/blog

This is what I understand to be the case. Infin It! is more like a redirecting service. SBI will not keep track of your blog (you cannot get traffic stats, rankings, or use analyze it for the blog). It's basically the same as creating a blog on another server and then creating a link to the sub-domain. From what I can see, the only advantage to using Infin it is that you can set up the look and feel of the blog to perfectly match the main site.
The only way to actually host a blog on SBI is to use the blog it! feature, which I do not consider to be an actual blog (it's more like a "site updates" page), or create a blog with C2. Using C2 would be the better option because you can add "posts" to your site and allow visitors to comment on your posts.

Thanks West, that's what I thought. I wish SiteSell would clarify that more on their sales pages because that can be misleading. So you can't really HOST your WordPress blog on SBI!, you can only redirect it to your blog address which is really on WordPress' servers. That also means you would not be able to host AdSense ads on your blog since WordPress hosted blogs do not support javascript.
So the answer to the original question of this thread (even though it's a year old now. LOL) would be "No."
Until SBI! begins supporting MYSQL, PHP, etc. you will not be able to officially host your blog on SBI!. You can only direct to it via a subdomain. I got it now. Thanks for the clarification.

You can use Hostgator or Bluehost to host your Wordpress.org blog and then use InfinIt to integrate it into your site. So you are not using Wordpress.com to host it and then you CAN use Adsense on your wordpress blog which is integrated into your SBI site.
I have looked into this because it is what I intend to do once I get enough content...and then transition my site to uploading my own html (trying to take things one step at a time!)..so I know this is possible. There are some TNT articles on it.
I don't really like the bloglet feature sbi has now...although I am using it until I get the wordpress blog going.
Hope that helps.

Thanks guys and gals.
I fished up this old tread, because I didn't want to ask a question that may have been answered already.

Whoa... now you've lost me, Jewel. Why would you use Hostgator/Bluehost, InfinIt! and SBI! all at the same time. SBI! is your host and they have their InfinIt! tool then what is the need for the additional hosts you mentioned?
And alpha, I'm glad you did bring this up because as you can see I'm a bit confused by this myself.

I don't get this either. Why choose this method when you can just use Wordpress as the host and then link to your blog?

This may sound funny to you, but I am actually using the BlogIt!/RSS for my blog. I am pasting my old blog from Blogger into separate pages that are displayed on my BlogIt! page. I set the number of items on the page to 50 (although they said it's not a great idea).
Do you guys see a problem with that?
I also see right now that I am going to have to go with css.
