Default Confused....again! lol

Okay. I'm on Day 7 of the SBI! process. I have 24 pages and am now learning about search engine stats and submitting to google, yahoo, and all that.

This is where I'm not clear. Isn't submission to the major search engines taken care of by SBI when you create your page and click on the BUILD IT button? If so, why does the SBI guide give info about how to submit to google, yahoo, ask...etc. Am I supposed to be doing this too? I'm reading an SBI page telling me how to submit individually and it says I have to have accounts with Yahoo, Google, etc in order to submit my pages. Am I understanding correctly?

Thanks!

Janna

Hi Janna,

Are you sure you're not getting confused with the Sitemaps? A sitemap is a list of all your pages that SBI! generates. You need to submit this to Google and Yahoo once. Then after that you don't have to manually submit them anymore and SBI! will keep your sitemap updated for you.

But as far as your site, you don't ever need to submit manually to Google, Yahoo, etc.

Default aahhhh (light bulb moment!)

Hi Lisa,

Okay. That makes sense. Told you I'm confused! I read that over a few times and I totally misunderstood what a sitemap is. I thought the Sitemap is what SBI submits when they're told OK, Build the page. As I've said, I'm learning A LOT from the ground up. It doesn't come easy to me all the time, but I'm committed to do-overs until I get it right!

So, i submit my sitemap to google and yahoo, signing up for accounts if i'm not a subscriber?

And the directories. Should I try one and see what happens? Or should I work on more content...I dunno....30 pages? until I have a good start on traffic?

Thanks,

Janna

Hi Janna

You must create an account (it's free) with Yahoo and Google so you can submit your sitemaps. There's an explanation for all this if you click on Search Engine HQ in Site Central. Right at the top of this page it explains what you need to do. I know it's a lot to absorb.

I have lost faith in directories for the most part, but if you can find some free ones that are related to your site then by all means go for it. I wouldn't invest much money in them unless you can afford the $299 to get into Yahoo. That's the only one I submit to now.

Default Sitemap

Hi Lisa,

Okay, I've added the sitemaps to the SE's. Now I'm just going to go back and add some more pages and give the process time to do its work.

This is going to be the hard part....wait, its all been hard! lol But I like what I have so far and will just keep working on high quality content.

Thanks so much for all your help!

Janna
