Default How Many Content Pages do You Need?

I have heard people on the SBI forums say you need at least 100 pages to be successful with the search engines. Any thoughts on this?

Way false. My SBI! site only has 30-40 pages and I get 5,000 to 6,000 visits per day and have been getting good traffic since 20 pages or so. If you can get backlinks from other wembasters/admirers, then you can build traffic to a site with lower numbers.

Traffic has nothing to do with how many pages on content you have. Traffic comes from how many back links you have to your site or a single page.

Focus more on marketing your site than creating 100s of pages of content. Focus on creating the right content, that is, content that is in demand in your topic of choice and focus on monetizing that content. This is important if you want to make money from your site. Ultimately when you have traffic, it will come down how well you have monetized your site so it converts for you.

what it all comes down to is quality. Rather then quantity. Especially nowadays.

Default It all depends, doesn't it?

Carletta,

You have to use your judgement in these matters, don't you. Fortunately, when I look at your work I can say that yours is excellent. Everytime I see what you are doing I am so impressed.

Look at your own two projects which we can see from your signature. Your website has plenty now to form a base and I know you will keep adding important material that will be productive for you. But you had to have a substantial amount of good information to make it effective.

Your blog, on the other hand, while it needs to keep growing to stay productive, can be very successful with far fewer pages. People expect to get fresh and interesting information and will keep reading if they do. They do not expect you to have a lot of additional articles if it is reasonably new.

My view is that a person needs to focus on content until what you have in the way of good content feels ok when looked at from a consumer's viewpoint. I am working on a site that will certainly need 100 pages to meet that criteria. I have another I want to do later that might do well with 5-10 because it has a very limited niche.

A backlink is a link to your site from someone else's site. For example, the link in my signature is backlink to my blog.
