Default Newbie with ideas wants advice

My name is Vashti, HI EVERYONE! and I live in Houston. I have been researching SBI, for a while, but everytime I want to actually purchase it, I back away from the SUBMIT button and move on to something else. A little bit about me, is I get bored, very easily (yes, I know bad for business). I do however, love being on the computer and searching things. Most of all I want to travel the world, before I die. and I love photography...mostly black and white.

Well to the stuff about website. I had a couple of ideas on websites I am just not sure, on which one will be the most useful to the webgoers out there.

1- A website on pitbulls- I have 3 pitbulls, who I love very much, and I hate that there are people out there that hate the breed, because of their bad rap. I would like to educate and inform people out there that its not the dog that is bad, but their owners. Also help people who want to have a great looking pitbull, a well be haved pitbull, and a great asset to their family.

2. A weekend getaway website. I work for Continental Airlines, part time. I love to travel, I like to get away, and visit places. I was thinking about a site that had information on places to go to with things you can do for the weekend. I know most people only have the weekends off, or just two days off in a row, so they utilize them and try to go out and have a blast. only thing is they arent from the area so they dont know what to do to fullfill their weekend to the fullest potential.

Well those are my ideas, I wanted any help on encouraging me to sign up for SBI, and any information I could use to persuade my mom to pay for it. I am usually good on doing this myself, but any extra tid bit you can offer will help.

Thanks Vashti

Hi Vashti and welcome,

I've moved your thread to the Site Build It! forum since your post was pretty specific to that topic. Don't forget to tell your mom that you have 30 days to try SBI! and you can get a full refund if you're not satisfied.

I will tell you this, if you do have the type of personality that gets bored easily and likes to move from one thing to another, then you definitely need patience with SBI!. Actually you need patience whether you use them or not because it takes time to build a successful website. Months and maybe even years, depending on the person, topic, etc. I just want to be upfront because a lot of people buy SBI! and want to rush through the whole process (ignoring parts of the guide) because they just want to launch their site quickly.

I believe SBI! would be great for your situation as long as you plan to follow the guide and realize there is work involved. Spend a lot of time thinking about your topic because ultimately you want to choose something that you feel you can continue to write about for the long haul. You don't want to choose something and then after the 3rd month you've run out of things to say. SBI! will guide you through the brainstorming parts when you buy it but I think that's a very important part. I've created so many sites that have failed because I had a great idea, but as I began to develop the site, I realized that I wasn't as passionate about it in the beginning so I got bored.

As I said, whether you use SBI! or not, topic choice is important so it's best you pick which you feel you're most comfortable with. You can make money with virtually any topic. That's not the issue. Just make sure you really do have enough useful and unique (very important) info to share.

Travel sites can be good but it's important you don't fall into a common trap and just produce standard facts about a city that can be found anywhere. I get a lot of emails from people who have created travel-related SBI! sites who have all this great information about a city but then wonder why they have no traffic. The reason is usually the site is not unique or useful enough. For example, if you are going to create a site about Las Vegas, it's fine to have some generic Vegas info but your site should also not be a re-write of lasvegas.com. You want to provide some audience-specific advice that people can't find elsewhere.

Or sometimes people don't narrow their niche enough. For example instead of doing a site on Las Vegas, it may be best to break it down to Las Vegas shows and just focus on the shows, ticket prices, concert dates, etc. The more focused your site is, the easier it will be to draw in targeted traffic.

I hope you don't think my reply is discouraging, but I just want to educate you on what you are getting into before you create a site whether you use SBI! or not. SBI! is an awesome tool and will give you the guidance you need. Just be prepared to supply your own BAM (brains and motivation).

Since you work for Continental Airlines and travel a lot you probably have a lot of inside knowledge about travel that the average person doesn't. That can really work in your favor when choosing your topic.

Hope that helps!

Default newbie

Thanks lisa, that helps a ton. I am still working on my ideas which has also held me back from asking my mom, and actually purchasing SBI for sure. I am completely spoofed, for a topic. I guess I dont know how to figure out what I am passionate about. I need to really sit down and think about it, I am going to make a list of things that I want to do in life, and see which one I want to do the most. I know I like to travel, do photography, and I am going to school for optometry. I just want to make sure and pick something I am passionate about like everyone else. I am just not sure. I dont mind taking the time and working on it. I have been pretty focused lately. i will keep you updated on what i come up with.

I read your blog about people requesting you alone, and I wasnt trying to do that. EVERY AND ANYONES ADVICE IS WELCOME, I am a beginner, and knowledge of those masters out there is appreciated. I am a college student, looking for something I can do instead of a part time job where I have to clock in and out, because I am going full time to school and my school schedule is going to be pretty crazy.

I understand your dilemma but that's perfectly normal. The good thing about SBI! is it takes you through a series of steps to help you brainstorm. Back to your original concern about your mom getting onboard with SBI! have her take a look at the action guide.

http://actionguide.sitesell.com This is the exact guide you'll get when you buy. It's not a limited version, but 100% of the advice you'll receive. The only thing is you don't have access to the tools until you buy it.
