Default Create website first, then SBI?

I'm completely new on this forum, so

Hi everybody!

The last couple of days I've been reading about SBI and the lisa-recommended articles written by ken envoy, among others. And I was wondering, should you create your website first, until it is almost "finished" and then register with SBI, or the other way around? I have dreamweaver so I don't need the site builder SBI offers in its package. It seemed to me that this way (creating the website first), I would save money. Do you SiteBuildIt-members feel the same way, or do you have a different opinion?

Thanks,

Cheryl

BTW; I'm from the Netherlands

Hi Cheryl,

We talked about this via e-mail but I just wanted to post this on the board for other people's benefits.

SBI! provides you everything you need to build your site, including a brainstorming tool that helps you choose the right topic and domain name. So there's no reason to build your site elsewhere first. You need to use the SBI! suggestions so you make sure you are on the right track.

Plus, when you create every page, SBI! will analyze it and make sure you are structuring your page correctly to receive the free traffic from Google, MSN (Live) and Yahoo.

You can use Dreamweaver or any web editor with SBI! but if you don't own any software than you can use SBI!'s Block by Block SiteBuilder to build your pages. Even though I own web editing software I chose to use SBI's built in block by block builder.

If you build your site first and then buy sbi that defeats the whole purpose of the major benefits of the product. The point of buying sbi is that it has a powerful brainstorming tool that tells you what domain and topic to choose. well let me rephrase that... it doesn't TELL you. You do the research and decide what's best for you.

Then you start creating your pages and as lisa said it analyzes every page to make sure you are optimizing it for maximum traffic. If you use another web host then you miss all these benefits.

SBI is not just for promoting your site, it helps you with every step from the beginning. Don't waste your money if you plan to build your site first and then buy it. You'll be missing the greatest gems!

Hmmm... I'm going to basically have an essay-based website, with 50 or so research-essays supporting one overall position. I've been writing them out before I start up the website. Should I go ahead and get the website before I write the content?

Here's my issue with writing out your content first...

The purpose of buying SBI! is that it will help you research the topic/idea so you make sure you have chosen the most "profitable" topic based on keyword searches and supply. What if you write out your content first and then buy SBI! only to discover not enough people are searching for your topic. Now what? So now you realize you may need to choose a different topic.

I guess that's my only issue with building your site first if you plan on buying SBI. That would be fine if you were just going to use a $5 host that doesn't give you the analysis tools. But the purpose of SBI is that it helps you do the research so you know that you're choosing an "in demand" topic.

Ok, thanks everybody for your replies. I understand now that writing the content first isn't the way to go. $300 for sbi isn't very much when you look at what you get in return, but being a cash-deprived student, it pleases me to see that one euro equals about 1.25 dollars
