How Long Before Success?
Hello all,
I bought SBI a while back, but due to life circumstances I just haven't gotten around to getting started. I noticed a few people on these forums that own SBI and I'm just curious as to how long it took for you to see success from your sites? I know it varies and I won't use your story as a benchmark but I'm just curious.
I really think it's a great tool and I totally see why it's much better than a regular host if you want to create a money making site... but I guess I'm afraid of starting and choosing the wrong topic.

ah yes i totally agree with you max choosing the wrong topic may lead to failure, but if you do your research then you may be boosting your site in a few weeks to a month... depending on your content, you want something that will be usefull in the lifes of all the people that browse the internet...
If you choose something educational like tution then parents may buy for their children and that could be popular... people these days don't know when to stop having children so it will go on forever.
Another suggestion would be making software... do you know how to make software from C++, C#, AHK, AU3? any? if so then make alot of useful programs. My friend payed me $180NZD to make him a Trojan, it is based on a keylogger but is much more dangerous than that but i made sure i made it reasonable safe so it never interacts with the internet for any purpose.
Hope this helps

Hey Max,
The "how long" question is always a difficult one and I hate to put a timeframe on it because people tend to use it as a benchmark as you said.
Me personally, I experienced success rather quickly with my site but I had created others so that helped. I made my investment back within the first couple of months.
Of course there are others who were newbies and found success. Elad of coolest-parties.com is a great example. He started earning $2,000 per month after only 6 months and that is way faster than I started earning.
It really depends on your dedication to your site. If you really follow the action guide, take time using the brainstorming tool to find a "profitable" topic and really work on updating your site then your success path is largely determined by you.
People always ask me "Why pay $299 when you can get a $10 host?" Well my first answer is always that wonderful brainstorming tool. As I said in the sticky above... it's worth the price of the product alone if you ask me. And I think choosing the right niche is what really helped me get traffic so fast. I may have chosen a "less profitable" niche had I not had access to those powerful tools.
Taking your time with the brainstorming process is THE most important part of creating a site whether you use Site Build It! or not. But SBI makes the brainstorming process much more organized and thorough.

Yes, they provide the standard web logs so you get the most visited pages, top referrers, and you can also see where you rank in the search engines for the keywords you target.

Hi all-
I'm another SBI owner (I always hesitate to say "owner". I feel more like an SBI member!)
"How long" is definitely a tough question. I'd go even further back: first define success. My definition of success has changed over the time I've been building my site.
I began my main site about 22 months ago. I feel like a slow poke, but that's relative. The name of the game is "build content".
Content pages are like real estate: the more pages you have, the more potential revenue you have.
Currently I get about 10,000 page views per month. That isn't good or bad. Some SBIers reach that in a few months. Took me 22 months to get there.
The money is relative too. Depends on your niche, your monetization models, your traffic (which with SBI has improved EVERY month for me)... bunches of factors.
Best suggestion I have for anyone who wants to start a site: YES, just get SBI.
Re: traffic stats: yup, it's in there. They aren't mad stats, if you're a real number junkie, but you can always add Google Analytics if you want. And that's easy. But the traffic stats that SBI offers are enough to let you take your site's temperature, see what your next moves should be.
Last point: SBI allows me to focus on the important stuff: content (did I remember to mention that content is the most important thing?) and allows me to completely ignore the stuff that makes me no money whatsoever (coding, etc).
Last, last point: (and this may be the most important): pick a topic you're excited about, that you can think about and write about frequently. That's where most of your content will come from. SBI offers lots of support and help on how to create the content. You will provide the why and what.

I do very little advertising. About 95% of what I've done is pure and simple SBI (the simplest in fact).
1- about $6 per month AdWords
2- about $5 per month Yahoo advertising
3- I've posted a number of articles (maybe 20 or so?) around article sites (like ezinearticles.com). Those are ok for backlinks, but not my best sources of traffic.
4- I've done guest interviews
5- I've given away ebooks
6- I have a very irregularly published newsletter
7- My biggest source of traffic, hands down, is organic (free, they find me) search engine traffic. Folks put in keywords and POOF, there I am. That, to me, is reason A#1 for using SBI.
So my secret isn't secret: write good, original content on topics that folks are interested in, in your particular niche (mine is NOT business building or marketing related at all, on my main site), and, using SBI (they make sure your site is indexed and announced all over the 'Net) announce yourself to the world!

Very well put Amy. When I first started researching ways to make money online I got sucked into buying all these Clickbank books on the "the secret" to getting rich or instant profits. And it's like you said, there is no secret. It's working hard and not being lazy expecting the money to just come out of nowhere.
That's one thing I've noticed about people who have succeeded with SBI...and Lisa too. You aren't afraid to admit you worked hard and the money didn't come over night. AND you did what you enjoyed.
Now I need to really get focused.

take it for what it is worth
Hi first is think it act it do it. Ya will never know unless you try.. ok let's be real.. first what are people looking for ? What is it you feel good about?
You got to feel good about something before it will work. Just like a job if you like your job you enjoy going in but if you do not you feel like oh well another draggy day at work.. are you going to stick with your work? ask yourself these questions then ask other questions you want to know keep asking the answer is out there...........the choo choo who could not finally said I CAN......OK you are not alone I learn everyday... I made it a habit to try to learn something everyday. I AM STILL LEARNING! Guess what I have friends I DO NOT KNOW IN PERSON BUT WE TALK ....never give up on anything .....
You will make it but maybe not or maybe more than the other. Sometimes we need an idea...Mine is seeking more and more people.......................one will tell the other and that one another and on and on and GOOD relationship will keep them comeing back.............nice to meet ya...

Just my 2 cents... my brother bought sbi a while back and it took him about 4 months to make his investment back. I was impressed. I may buy it one day to do another site, but I just don't have the funds right now.
