Lisa,

Thanks for the information. However, an interesting thing just happened. The experience that I was explaining to you above only happened as I'm actually viewing the site in WYSIWYG mode in dreamweaver. But usually when I design, I will test it in IE by pushing F12. Well, when I did that, everything looked fine. Each column had equal heights but when you look at it in design mode the middle containers content is waaaaaaaaay at the bottom. Weird!!

Oh I see what you mean now. I thought you were talking about something else so ignore that link I put up in my previous response. LOL

I have had that problem in DW sometimes too yet my site shows up fine in all browsers. Not really sure why that happens or what part of the code DW doesn't like. And the weird thing is, it doesn't always happen... only sometimes.

Lisa,

Is there a better code to use for fixed background properties for your css templage. I used the basic code but can't seem to get it to work:

Here's what I used: bgproperties="fixed"

Any suggestions anyone?

Hi Kevin,

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean for the header or backgrounds in general?

Okay, you know how in dreamweaver you can go modify the page properties and you can use a background image for the entire page instead of a color. Okay once that is set, your background image appears behind your design. Now, there is a code that you can add to your background properties that will allow your background image to stay fixed while only the layout is scrollable. See an expample here:

I tried to use the suggested code that they use but for whatever reasons, it doesn't work on your template. Or maybe i'm just not doing it right.

Do you have any suggestions?

Default I am so confused!

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I simply cannot figure this out. I downloaded the free template from the 2create blog and read the instructions a few times. I then downloaded Kompozer and opened the index file in Kompozer. But I cannot open the style.css sheet. I keep getting an error that says "this is not an HTML file". So I'm guessing that Kompozer can only open HTML files?? If so, how am I supposed to make changes to the template? I can only open it in Frontpage. Am I missing something? I played around with the Cascade button on the Kompozer toolbar and figured out how to change colors, width, etc, but the changes never stick. It keeps going back to the original template.

I then tried the transition template from SBI! but I can't figure out how to add a third column to it. I looked on the SBI forums for help but couldn't find anything. I've been going at this for about 1 week now and I am about to lose my mind.

Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

If Kompozer does not recognize css stylesheets, you may have to modify the css sheet manually. i.e. open it as a text file, make the changes, upload it to your server, refresh your page, and see if the changes you wanted took effect.

I think the reason the cascade changes you're making through Kompozer are not sticky, because the template probably refers back to the original css stylesheet.

So in the header code for the template, you will see a line of code that refers to the original css stylesheet.

When I fuss around with things like that, I make sure I have all the original files, in case I mess up badly, I would be able to restore the original page.

Hey lisa long time no build, (for me that is) thought I should let you know I just scooped up that DW CS3 and the getting started and used to and all the tools are powerfly overwhelming and confusing. Its like I try a good piece of code on the html creator and kinda think im using blockbuilder cuz I keep looking for a preview button but no avail. My question is how long did it take you to get used to it but what I would really like to know is are there any special vid tutorial sources you sought, I know the sw comes with a little something but they are a bit limited.
One more thing, I just can't figure out how you answer all these posts, handle two sites, a forum and still work your 9to 5, do u sleep and how do u do it lisa?

Hi Revenue,

Welcome back!

I understand. I was overwhelmed at first too but what helped me was Dreamweaver for Dummies and that's what finally got me using it for good. It had a sample CSS template so I copied that and then followed the book for how to add more CSS styles to that template. You definitely need a book or some kind of guide to help you along because there are so many options.

But once you learn, you'll love it. Now I'll admit there is still a lot I don't use or know how to use but as long as I can manage my site I'm happy.
