Save Home Page but don't publish...HOW?
Quote:
Page Manager
To edit, preview or delete a page, click on its link. To move a page into a folder, click on its icon and then drag into any folder. Create folders as needed.

OK one of many Dumb Questions... and I am on Overload...pretty beat so I might be missing the How to ??
BUT I have Content Done for my Home Page...and wanted to Lay it out in SBI but NOT Publish Yet...Wanted to add some pics and bold some type and then SAVE It .. and go on to the next page.
HOW do I do this?? Lost
I did see Page manager but I think I can only use that when I add pages after my home page. ?
I know I need at least 10 pages BEFORE I launch the Site...so with that being said it starts with the Home Page and I guess Page Manager to follow...My thinking is to Build the pages within SBI then officially Launch it by hitting BUILD IT... Is this correct or no?
You can refer me to a post to review or answer the question...thanks so much for ur reply

Unfortunately you either have to save it locally on your PC or publish it live. There is no "holding area". That's not a dumb question at all by the way.
Best way to "lay it out" is to do so in your own local editing program.
I wouldn't worry about not having your 10 pages done yet. If no one knows your domain name then the chances of someone finding your site are going to be slim to none. I agree you should wait until you have a decent amount of content before you officially begin promoting your site but it's OK to hit the "Build It!" button and get it out there.

Hi BobG,
Even though you cannot stop your home page from going live, there is something you can do about your Tier 2 pages. As you build them, choose NOT to include them in your nav bar, and do not include any links to those pages within your site. This will eliminate visitors from having a way to get to them. The pages will be live on the web, but the only way to find them would be to type in the entire URL, and your visitors will have no idea what that is. Once your're ready for the pages to be seen, just go back to each of them and select "yes" to add a link to your nav bar.

West, that is an excellent idea. I never thought of doing that.
BobG, I would like to have a staging area for SBI using Build It, but unfortunately, it is not an option at this time. What I did is wrote my content, for the first several pages, in Notebook and added notes, keywords etc. Then when I had several pages ready to build, I went into site builder.

Thanks Theresa, I have been using Notepad to gather content...that and grabbing Post It Notes at 3 am by my bed when I have an idea for more content--LOL

This is true, however the search engine spiders could find the page and consider it an orphaned page which is not good. Remember SBI is pinging the search engines as you are building pages. Best not to make the spiders mad right out of the chute.
As Lisa said in the beginning no one is really going to your site anyway so go ahead and publish the pages as you go.

I have been doing just what West suggested all along...I wondered what the spiders would think. Thanks Greg I may not do this in the future.

Doesn't this depend on whether or not your page has been spidered yet. For me, it usually takes a couple of weeks for the SE's to initially spider a new page. But I always end up adding a link to the page before the SE's find it.
You shouldnt have an orphaned page in your site for too long. But I think it's okay if you leave it orphaned for only a few days. You should make sure you have enough content on a page in order to publish it by the time it's spidered.

I agree with West. Spiders will revisit and they will see that the orphaned page is linked up. As long as you don't have tons of orphaned pages just sitting idle forever I really doubt it would affect your SE rankings much in the end.
