Default Dreamweaver vs Coffeecup vs SBI templates

Hi,

I am not sure exactly where to start as far as the site building is concerned. Are the SBI templates themselves enough for me to put up a site? Would it be reasonable to start out with them and them possibly upgrade to one of these software programs as my knowledge grows?

Do I need these other software packages? I think I understand that I do not...but then, since many of you use them, what would be the advantages over the SBI templates? Variety? Versatility?

BTW- I have not made the purchase yet...these are questions I was curious about before I went through with the purchase.

Thanks.

Jewel

Hi Jewel,

Though I don't know much about SBI, I would say if you're going to make an investment in anything, it should be dreamweaver (and photoshop if possible).

Dreamweaver is most widely used in the industry and provides a lot of flexibility.

I'm assuming based on your post that you're new to website design and development...If I were you, I'd take some time to learn HTML/XHTML and CSS. If you do this, it doesn't matter what tools you use as you'll know how modify the HTML and CSS code these tools generate on the back end.

Hope this helps. In addition, there's a lot of support as far as user tutorials and such for dreamweaver. Not sure about SBI.

Hi Jewel

A ton of people start out like that. They go with the basic SBI! templates (which are very standard I'll admit but easy to setup) Then they go to CoffeeCup or Dreamweaver.

SBI! has explicit (and I do mean explicit!) instructions, step by step on how to migrate your site over to Dreamweaver, FrontPage or whatever you want to use. So I would recommend starting with the standard SBI! templates and then moving to other software when you get comfortable.

Thanks Levi, I will most likely end up doing that down the road...but for right now I will start simple with the SBI templates.
