Service Business
I think I am going to go in a different direction than I initially planned with my SBI site.
This week, 3 of my friends emailed me stuff to edit for them. And then the lightbulb went off! I have a skill I could offer as a service - writing and editing! I have experience with all kinds of writing: web copy, press releases, marketing copy, essays...etc.
If I plan to use my SBI site to get my freelance business going, my keywords should revolve around writing and editing, correct?
What kind of content would be best to offer? Perhaps tips for writing/editing?
I just want to make sure I am on the right track with my thinking. I posted this question in the SBI forums and haven't gotten a response yet.

Hi ronaliscious,
Be sure to check the numbers in Brainstorm It. Copywritng and/or writing seems like a very broad market to capture.

There are lot of writing, editing, copy writing jobs that you can find in freelancer sites. The articles to be written or the topic will be provided by the client. You can do it since you just said that you are good in these areas..

Not if you go for local search tactics - how many copywriters in three hours driving time are armed with something like SBI? (difficult to answer, but you get my drift..)
Go local - see this SBI testimonial: http://www.sitesell.com/vbi/WhoNeedsTraffic.html

ed7up,
That's exactly what I was thinking. In fact, I don't want to dominate the entire niche/market at this point because I'm just getting started. Initially, I'd like to use my SBI site to bring in some freelance projects, preferably from clients in the area in which I live. I just stumbled upon the Local Business Reference Series, so I'm about to start reading that.
So am I correct in thinking that my content should revolve around my service?

ronaliscious, i like where you're heading. My first SBI site I'm developing is a service site also. It is great to get supportive feedback from others, however, ultimately the decision has to feel just right for you. Anything is possible. So, the more familiar you become with the direction of your topic, the more confident you become about the possibilities of your success. I think the more empowered you become the better. I will also emphasize patience as you put this concept together. Now for some specific action suggestions: Use the brainstormer on keywords "such as writing, web copy, press releases, marketing copy, essays" to help you fine tune your service website concept. Also, since you are interested in your local area, also use brainstormer for your local area. As far as content ideas, well look at the site info of the competitors associated with your keywords from brainstormer. Also, their are about 20+ articles in the TNT specifically relating to Content, that will give you far more specific ideas. Also the 250 page pdf book on making your content sell. Lots of valuable resources available to you. also, since you are following the Action Guide, I would suggest focusing more or the niche concept for right now, and then the content. To avoid getting overwhelmed with too many unknowns.
