How about a competition to see who can design the best looking website. Of course it wouldn't have to be a real website (That would require domain, hosting etc) But just a template of what the layout would look like.

True. It would definitely be a challenge and if since it's for money that would probably encourage more newbies to give it a try.

I could do this but I would be very specific on the things the template has to have because people may be tempted to copy an existing template from the web.

These ideas are really helping. Thanks everyone.

    Default How about...

How about have a most popular of Website Babble Site. You already have the Site Reviews Area, have an area in this contest sub forum where we can sumbit our sites and have the users vote on it. Your site excluded of course cause you'd win. And say the winner get's a one way link on one of your popular sites for a month.

I like the idea about people voting on "best site" but the reward would really only be valuable to people who have sites related to web design and development. A site on kitchen supplies, for example, would hardly get much value from a one-way link from 2 Create a Website since the topics aren't related so I may have to think of another way to reward the winner. But yes, a contest for "best site" is a good idea!

Now you're talking. I could do something this this or even extend the reward to 3-6 months to make it more appealing. Appreciate the ideas everyone. Keep 'em coming!

How about a "Page Turner Award". I see the question marks flying all over the place.

What I mean is, you could randomly pick a thread in the lounge and the member who causes the "page" to turn wins (that would be the person at the top of page #2) along with the person who started the post because it was obviously a great topic. This might encourage more members to become more social.

I don't know... it was just a thought.

    Hi Alpha,

That's a good Idea but it can be cheated on, because it would be easy to wait for the certain post number for any thread that has a potential to get long.

    Cheers, Amr

I think that's my problem with almost any contest that comes to mind and why it's taking me so long to decide. Any contest that has to do with number of posts always opens the door for "cheating". I'm finding that it's hard to come up with one that's completely cheat proof. So maybe I'll do random things from time to time like "Most reputation points awarded in a month" or something like that from time to time.

I do love that everyone is giving ideas though. Keep 'em coming. BTW, I love the name "Page Turner Award".

    I'll tell you what.
You can make a secret contest, "not announced" and then tell us the winner at the end and why he/she won

    cheers, amr

Exactly. That's what I meant with the example above. I would announce the winner and say "Congrats, you received the most reputation points last month!" I think that's what it's going to come down to in the end.

    Hi Guys

Going on the idea of a website design contest:

Anyone who is interested in joining the contest would reply to a thread with what skills they can bring to the project and at what level. Then the contest coordinator would then put all the entrants into groups of three or four fairly mixing up the skills and skill levels this will make up teams.

Each team will then need to work together via email to build and promote a content website over a certain timescale, this could be one month of building and one month of promoting, between the team this is not out of reach by any means as this would be the same as one person spending three months (if there are three in a team) building and then three months promoting.

After the two months is up the website's will be disclosed to the community and marked on the following:

    1) Overall design

    2) Back links

    3) Revenue

    4) Traffic (organic only this will eliminate bought traffic)

    and any other factors....

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

    The rules would be:

    1) The domain name would be a .info (Godaddy about $1) this will be easy to raise between the team.

    2) No templates, the template must be a one off.

    3) The website must be a content website and must be informal to the niche (any niche unless it breaks any other rules!).

    4) The domain name must be registered between a set time window to ensure that established domains are not used (within 24 / 48 hours of each other)

    5) The traffic will need to be proven by Google Analytics so everyone will need to use this so that a pdf can be downloaded and produced to all the teams.

    6) No out sourcing, the name of the game is to show your own skills and teamwork.

    7) Content can be sourced online but not bought, you can create unique content but this will be time consuming (you need to weight up the benefits between your team)

    8) No forums, porn, directories, gambling and all website's must be legal and for all ages.

    9) You must keep your domain name from the other teams to avoid idea stealing and with that you can't publish the link to your competition website on this forum.

    10) The website must be sold after the competition, the proceeds could be given to charity and you would also need to be fair because only one of you can hold the affiliate account or adsense account so the money the website makes can even that out (if it makes anything!). Either way the value of the website can't be determined really so the only fair way to do it is to sell it via auction.

    11) The revenue will be divided by the unique organic traffic the website has had to produce a score, this will avoid clicking of team mates adverts.

The idea is to bring the community closer together whilst creating a buzz, the teams would be matched not because they are friends but hopefully to make new friends and maybe even working relationships. Everyone on this forum can enter, this is for people of all skill levels, everyone has something they are good at!

Between the team you would need to purchase the domain name and I think you should be able to either add the domain name to one of your hosts or use a free host so that you can all have access to the cpanel.

The rules and details are just what I have come up with and I am sure people will find loop holes, this can be discussed and agreed as a community before hand.

    Just a thought

    Dan
