    This is sad news indeed.

Lisa you have been an inspiration to me.

I do understand the reason you have to close the forum.

I hate those spammers too and wish I could take a flame thrower to them.

    They're scum.

LOL! Chad, it's all good. Everything happens for a reason and my upcoming membership site with Member Mouse testing is going great thus far! I've learned so much about what to do and NOT to do with a forum and how to better monetize it in the future. I'm sad but excited about the new adventure at the same time. It's all good. You live and learn.

Good to hear things are going great with your membership site. I wish you lots of luck with it.

I was doing great with adsense on my forum and blog until I got that dreaded email saying that I was banned for invalid click activity.

    I appealed but lost.

So after searching around I found a script that allows people to signup and purchase ad space per 1,000 impressions.

It's an automated script where people can do most of the work themselves to get their ad on your site.

Course you can still set the script to require admin approval of the ads that show up if you want.

I bought the script at http://www.softbizscripts.com/scripts/ba/ it only cost $21.00 and they even installed it for me for no extra charge.

As for the spam. Today I had around 3 pages of spam coming from some spammers in the moderation queue of my webmaster forum.

I had to ban the spammers first because they were still adding to that queue.

I always wondered but haven't implemented it. But maybe have a pay requirement even just a slight amount as 50 cents or $1.00 per member a one time fee to maybe keep the spammers out.

I know I wouldn't have a problem paying a little one time fee to join a forum.

If I could do it all over again Chad I would have probably required a very small yearly fee like $9/yr just to keep spam at bay. When the forum was active I think most wouldn't have mind paying that. I tell you. This has been a learning lesson indeed. Forums are not as glamorous as they are made out to be. And you should have a strategic plan out the gate. I didn't.

To be honest a lot of major forums were having trouble with V Bulliten which wasn't a problem until a year or so ago.

I know I wouldn't have minded paying that fee. It would be well worth it.

I pay more than $9.00 a year for my domain.

I may implement the pay to register option in the future if my forum really get's even more active than it is now.

Current members would still be free but new ones would pay a small fee to register.

I was mad before that I was banned from adsense but now I'm using media.net ads and making more than I was with adsense.

Just think if you had just 4,000 members paying that $9.00 a year that would bring in $36,000.00 a year before fees etc.

Not bad. Course my forum would really need to get popular.

I had my own forum once and members kept writing stuff that others wanted to sue me over so I shut it down.
