Default Do You Use Twitter Lists?

I think anyone using Twitter should be using lists, not necessarily to be promotional but to be able to cut through the sheer amount of Tweets and segment those they follow into specific interest groups.

For example, I follow a few hundred users, but I do not want to unfollow any of those accounts. Therefore I can separate those I follow into topical sub sections. It REALLY helps me break down what is probably the fastest moving social network into something that doesn't make me feel out of breathe.

I feel I can prioritise who I want to hear from or what type of conversation I am in the mood for by selecting a particular list and seeing what is being said right there and then.

If I have been studying my analytics data and I am wanting to socialise for half an hour where analytics is the subject, I will choose a Twitter list where I know analytics is the main agenda of those I've put into that list.

It is very easy to add users to lists. You can put the same users in more than one list too.

So, do you use Lists for Twitter, and if so, what are your tips/advice?

I create lists inside Tweetdeck, the app I use the most often to browse Twitter. So for example, I have all the people related to "Design" under one column, etc. Yes you're right. You have to this. Otherwise you will miss a lot of content just browsing the Twitter stream. This is especially true if you follow hundreds of people. To this day I don't understand how people follow thousands or 10's of thousands of people effectively. I have trouble keeping up with the 200 or so I follow.

Recently I have been notified that a follower of mine puts me on the list. I don't know what it is exactly but is it related to the list you are talking about Darren?

Yes it means someone has added you to one of their lists because you are talking about something they are interested in. They have segmented their main Twitter feed into sub topics and you are in one of those lists now.

    Yes, I do.

But I keep them private since I name them in the weirdest way possible. (e.g. "People I rarely talk to") Lol

Twitter list is like facebook groups. Where you can post your tweet. Only list members can see your post on list.
