Terrific point, John. A $5000.00 camera will not take better pictures than a $100 camera if you do not know how or do not take advantage of its features. Many people brag about their Photoshop while Gimp has more features than they use. There is nothing wrong with buying and using more expensive tools. There really are some differences that some people need in many cases. But owning an expensive guitar does not make you a guitar player. In short, it is the same no matter what you do.

In my judgement, the most important part of keyword research is the part that goes on between your ears when you look at the sites that come up in a search. When I research words for my financial site I find some words get several pages of returns from the likes of Money magazine and CNN money while others get listings that are very non-competitive. It doesn't matter what the research tools say, if you cannot interpret the results with sound thinking you cannot achieve good results.

As far as keyword tools are concerned, I can get several times more information from the free Google tool than I have the time or inclination to use so I do not expect to pay for any other. Everyone can make their own choices but I think it is most important to keep your point in mind: what is the information you really need and how will you use it.

I keep on thinking about this and GKT always comes out the best. Factor is GKT doesn't tell you about competitors, hence you discover that many website owners do not completely depend on it.
