I use GoDaddy.com and Name.com. Both are serious companies and i never had a single issue with them.

    Thanks!
    I like Namecheap and Godaddy.

Namecheap has lower prices and no confusing upsells.

Godaddy constantly tries to get you to spend more that you need to by upselling you on stuff you don't need.

What I do like about Godaddy however is their refund policy. They give you your money back if you register a domain name and then change your mind.

Namecheap on the other hand simply give you equivalent to store credit.

Domain purchase - Namecheap.. Used them for years plus you get free whois security in the first year. Godaddy and all the rest charge $10+ for this feature. Without the security, your personal address, telephone number, and email is out there for all the world to see.

Hosting - Hostgator hands down. Never had downtime issue (which I did with another major player) and the support staff is super friendly and helpful.

Don't know about "all the rest" although I do know Hostgator charges $9.95 because I do some hosting there, but I use Dreamhost primarily and they never charge for this service at all, first year or later. I've used it on most if not all of my domains there for years.

Name.com is also pretty good. They can sync all your domains to renew at the same time -- what a time saver!

Well, I using GoDaddy for my site and have nothing bad to say about there service.

But depent on your tecnical knowledge, I would advice you to buy your domain together with your hosting.
(There can be some pros to buy hosting and domains separately, but it requeres some more configuration)

GoDaddy have a server setup in Amsterdam, so if you are targeting web users in the uk, you should be able to get good response times.
