Default No dupe content!

hi guys,

I am currently testing joomla on my site. it is in a directory on my domain name, and it has the same content as my main site. I won't post the url as I don't want google to follow it and penalise me for dupe content. Do you think my test pages will stay undetected by google if I don't link them anywhere, or would I be best looking into the robot.txt file. I don't know much about it, but i could soon learn it need be.

Thanks!

If it's not linked from anywhere you should be OK but it wouldn't hurt to put a no follow tag in your meta tags if you want to be extra safe. I've had duplicate content all the time when I've been redesigning my site but since the content is only up for a limited time I don't worry about the no follow tag. I just delete it when my transition is complete.

I have not used no follow tags in the meta tags. How do I do this to prevent google spidering?

Cheers

Pete

The follow should do the trick:

<meta name="robots" content="noindex,nofollow">

Just put it in the head section with your other meta tags.
