how safe is 301?

hello guys,

I have been looking at using joomla for a content management system for my site to make it look better and easier to navigate. If I use joomla I would need a completely different directory and file structure and it would mean moving all my URLs. From speaking to a few people, it seems this would be unavoidable. I have done some reading and it seems a 301 redirect is fair safe and would avoid google thinking I am trying to spam dupe content. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

A 301 would be the best way to inform Google of the URL.

From everything I've read over the years, it's completely safe as far as protecting your Google rankings.
