Default google link:

I got a few links to my site over a month ago now and the link:www.forexpm.com search on google is still empty. Is this normal?

Yes very normal. Google never show the true number of back links a site has, not on their results pages anyway. Use Google Webmaster Tools to get back link statistics on your site, very handy.

A webmaster of a bigger site in my niche has said he wants to use some of my content and says he will give me a link.. I am hoping this with help with google

You can also use http://www.yahoo.com and type site:http://yoursite.com. I think yahoo is quite accurate.

If it was me I would strike a deal on writing a unique article for his site for a link back. He gets a non-duplicated article and you get a better link back.

ah yes, i hadn't thought, If I share the content on my site, google won't see it as unique any more. I think i'll refrain from letting anyone else use the content on my site, so the bulk of it says unique. I can always write articles seperately, like you say.
