Default seo

hi folks,

Quick question. I designed my site in Netobjects and all the html pages are in a /html/ directory on the server, so all pages are domain.com/html/. I am concerned this may have a negative impact on my search engine placements. Is it worth moving all the files in /html to / so all the html pages are domain.com/x.html?

After doing some reading I found a 301 server redirect is the most friendly way to do it.

Any thoughts on if its worth doing ?

Thanks,

Peter

Its not a major problem that you have the files in a /html/ folder but it doesn't really bring you any benefits either. I always have my sites as domain/*.html but only because its personal preference for me.

I agree with Gavin and overall it's not going to affect your SE rankings. Just make sure when you name the actual pages, use your targeted keywords (for example, winter-vacation.html)

thanks for the replies. I might as well leave the directory structures as they are. I am already using /html/keyword.html

I have around 42 pages with unique content now. I seem to be averaging 1 google hit per day at the moment from google. They rank me in the top 10 briefly for obscure keywords on the regional sites, like google.se and google.hu then push me down the listings again. I am in the process of building good quality content, then I will ask some good sites to trade links, from what i have read here, it seems this may help with google and the others in the longer term. I am also adding posts daily to my blog. My niche gives me plenty to write about daily :-)

That sounds about right for a new site. They often bounce you around until you've been around long enough to establish some credibility. Keep building and you'll be fine.
