I was wondering.. Does anyone know if using your site on the signiture link on forums helps with the search engines, as it is a link. Perhaps it would work better on forums that are about the same topic as your site as it would be more relevant, any thoughts?
At one time forum signatures were very important because it was about the number of backlinks to your site but after people caught on to what Google and the other engines look for, it got abused so I think the engines don't pay as much attention as they used to.
However, if your site is about dog grooming and you post on a forum that is about various dog topics, I would think that would help a little more than if you posted on a forum that wasn't directly related to your site.
I could be wrong but that's the impression I've gotten from what I've read and seen over time.
But overall they sure can't hurt so I don't see why anyone wouldn't use them.
From my understanding, google does pick up signature links and gives them some importance. I noticed in the beginning when i started my site. I had the link in my sig using a keyword and google indexed my page using that keyword in their index.
Forum signatures shouldn't be ignored when marketing your site. The best way to use forum signatures is not link your site using the keyword you're optimizing for. Make sure to pick a keyword which gets somewhat high volume traffic but is not too saturated.
Currently, i'm aiming for the keyword "Learn PHP" for my php site. The keyword is common but is not so common.
No, i wrote the site from scratch. I didn't want to use any content management system because i wanted to control the design, the look, features, site compmnents and basically every aspect of the site myself.
When you use a content management you don't get much flexblty to add/modify and change things.
Since i have written content managements systems myself so coding a small site like this wasn't too hard. I add bits and pices to the site slowely as i need them.

fair enough.. Your site is nicely laid out. I need to work on the layout of mine, its a bit messy at the moment. My main focus so far has been building the content.

I couldnt agree more.
Search Engines will reconise the link but they may not give it as much notice as that of a link from a relevant single page. Another good thing about sig links is traffic, they can bring you some interested readers if the forum is relevant to your site.

One suggestion i would give is too add some spacing between your menu links. The links re too close to each other.
You're using <br> tag between your link. Thou i would suggest you to put links tables and td or even better use divs but to keep things simpler, i would suggest to add 2 <br> tags between your links to give extra spacing.
