I responded to your review in the other forum and voiced a couple of concerns about sites like this.
You can make money from directory sites the same way you make money from blogs, websites, etc. - advertising, affiliate links, AdSense, etc. The tricky party about owning a directory is drawing enough traffic to it and making it appealing for webmasters to use it.
Think about why webmasters use directories. They want traffic to their sites. But if your directory lacks the traffic, it will deter people from signing up because they don't feel your site gets enough visitors.
Also, since there are thousands of directories on the web, you are going to have to do something very unique to make yours stand out from the rest. I personally think if you are going to create a directory, it's best to do a niche directory like sports cars, video games, or something with one kind of audience. You're competing with big sites like Yahoo, The Open Directory and many others so appealing to the average webmaster is going to be tough.
