Default Search engine submission and optimization

Is there a company that can so search engine submission and help optimize my website so i can have the best chance to get my site picked up and get traffic to it? A company that you can recomend from experience or word of mouth. And hopefully one that isnt too expensive.

In a nutshell.... The good ones are going to be expensive. The cheaper ones will probably be rip-offs. Years ago search engine optimization companies really could help sites get a good ranking because it was more about meta tags and on-page criteria. These days, how well you rank depends so much on your marketing and how well you get enough inbound links that using an SEO company is very risky.

Don't get me wrong, there are a few companies out there that really understand the SEO rules and teach people how to build long-term traffic, but the one I'm thinking of mainly works with corporations and costs 4-5 figures per month.

In my opinion it's best to read up on SEO and understand that it's all about getting quality backlinks. How do you do that? First writing useful, UNIQUE content in your niche, which will result in people linking to you without you even asking (over time). Posting on related forums, commenting on related blogs, connecting with other webmasters in your niche to see if there's some way you can work together, etc. I would focus on doing that and save your money. It takes time but with hard work and patience, you'll get there.

OK. I have done alot of research already on the subject, I just thought it would be awesome to have someone help me out with it. I was really interested in SBI for that reason and since I cant use them for what I want, I was hoping to get some of the features I want somewhere else.

And I'm not saying there is absolutely NO ONE out there because I'm sure there are some decent companies (I don't know of any personally). But I bet everyone here who is getting traffic from the search engines will tell you they've learned on their own (with the exception of some SBIers of course who chose to go that route). Even if you don't buy SBI! you can still learn on your own. So that's always a good thing. www.searchenginewatch.com and www.seomoz.org

That's what I did. Google is currently the largest supplier of traffic to my site by far. I haven't done a whole lot towards SEO, but I have written unique content on a regular basis. This in the end is what helped me with the search engines.

I have to agree with Lisa on the 'it used to be all about the meta tags'. Now it seems it's a lot more about the backlinks and where they're coming from. Unfortunately you can't really pay someone to do that for you. Which I think is good, actually.

I'm a developer by trade (ASP.Net) and thought initially - no problem I can create dynamic meta tags for all of the products on my clients website. The search engines will love me. Ended up with a lot of egg on my face. Even after I submitted sitemaps that were dynamically created by my website based on the products my client was selling still a lot of nothing. Then I started doing a lot more research on SEO and discovered the importance of commands like site: and link: on Google.

That's when I relized the competition had a lot of links and I had nil. uugghhhh...so now I'm starting to spend a lot more time sharing my ASP.Net experience on forums and making sure I include my blog as part of my signature thus creating a potential link back to my blog. The more I answer the more links I generate.

I didn't even think of that until a couple of weeks ago I was writting in another forum looking for some advice on rebuilding my '74 Super Beetle convertible. I wrote it on a Friday. On the following Tuesday I happened across it on google. Ranked #1 for the problem I was having. And yet my blog that I submitted a sitemap to the top four search engines weeks before hadn't found me yet. Lesson learned: write, write, write. And include a signature with your link at the bottom. This is still an unproven theory for me personally but it makes sense.

OK, thanks. Thats alot of really great advice! I do have a forum I post on regularly that is geared specifically towards whats going to be on my website. And I know of a couple more. So at least I wont have to spend a bunch of money on it!

If your keywords are not too compatitive I would do it on my own.

Depends whether you have some time and are interested in the theme of SEO.

Don't use SEO services, anything they can achieve you can do on your own (for free).
There is no easy way of getting to the top of search engines, it could take years depending on the keyword. Just update your website a lot, try to make it the best and most complete website in it's niche and eventually you will start ranking for your keywords. SEO is not all about optimization, it's about creating a website that offers something useful so other sites have a reason to link to it.
